AC Help

Hey guys,

I have a 2000 expy and i have 47000 miles on it. The AC stopped blowing cold air about a week ago, but the rear ac worked well, It blew colder than front. well yesterday the rear stopped blowing cold air also. i had the system checked when i was in florida last spring and they did not find any problems. also for about a year now when i am running the rear ac i can heard a faint squelling coming from where the compressor is. but now it is much louder. and i can heard it all the time now, weather the rear hvac controls are on or off.

Any Help before it goes to the dealer?

PS i posted this in the HVAC section but over 4 or so days i did not get a single responce

Routine Troubleshooting

If you have not tried these steps for isolation check them out.
1. The squeal maybe the belt at the compressor is loose and may need to be replaced or tighten. Check the adjustment of the belt.

2. To verify the AC turn the automobile on locate the compressor and have someone switch the AC to the on position. When the AC comes on you should see the compressor kick in. If the compressor kicks in then the problem is the blower. If the compressor does not kick in there is one or two problems.

3. One problem could be the refrigerant is low because you have a leak. The way to verify that is pick up a refill kit of 134a it will come with a gauge and line. The kit is about $10.00 at Wall Mart or K-Mart. Connect the gauge and hose to the low pressure side with the AC on and car runningand see if it goes in the need to fill line. The compressor will not kick in unless it is charged.

4. Secondly if the pressure is okay and the compressor clutch don't kick in the likely hood is that the compressor is bad and will require replacement.
