Replacing Rear Air Suspension Compressor - 2009 Navigator
Replacing Rear Air Suspension Compressor - 2009 Navigator
So, last weekend, we decided to take a road trip down to Pennsylvania to visit some friends.
Over the past little while, I noticed the air suspension compressor getting progressively louder, and didn't sound quite right when I started it the week before we left (the Navigator was spotlessly detailed for the trip and sat for a week hermetically sealed in the garage as to not get dirty before we left).
Outside Portland, ME, I get the check air suspension light. The compressor would not engage. Checked the fuse and all good there, so we decided to get a rental.
Arrived back on Monday and the air suspension was still aired up enough to drive - good sign, no leaks. Especially where the suspension hasn't essentially pumped up in two weeks. Drove home with the suspension turned off and now it's parked with a compressor on the way.
I have a new compressor arriving on Thursday and the installation seems straight forward enough. Is there anything I need to do to reset the air suspension system after replacing the compressor or should it be pretty much install and go? I was planning on disconnecting the battery while doing it, so, is that good enough?
Many said, convert to coil springs, but I like things as they left the factory, so keeping the air suspension intact is the way I want to go. If the air springs fail in time, I'll replace those also.
Thanks,
Dan
