expy-standard-hitch?

Mornin'

I bought a boat in Florida, flying there to get it, and hauling it back to Houston with a rental. the car rental place can't guarantee what I'll get, but it'll be a tahoe, yukon, suburban, or expedition. from what i can tell, the gm's come with a hitch from the factory, standard. anyone know if the expy's do? i need to have a game plan. thanks!

I can't answer that question, but I'd first make sure you are even allowed to tow anything with a rental SUV. You may have to rent a pickup truck or even a U-Haul truck.

I haven't broached this subject with the rental car company. My stance is, if they don't want the vehicles used for towing, they shouldn't have a hitch. I don't believe it's an issue, fingers crossed. I checked all avenues to return the boat to Houston; Uhaul, Penske, Rhyder, Enterprise trucks, and shipping. Renting a tahoe is the cheapest option by a mile.

I just read on another forum that NONE of the major rental companies allow towing unless you rent a commercial truck. They enforce it by putting locking pins in the receivers so you can't put a drawbar in.

You can pop the plug out of the bumper (if it has one) and screw in a ball, but that will be violating the rental agreement and you are on your own, if anything were to happen you would be in a big insurance bind.

Why can't you drive out there and tow it back with your truck?

GLC has been the voice of reason. It did take some digging, but I found some pdf info. They're not huge fans of towing with their vehicles apparently. I am trying not to take off any time from work, besides a day we're already given off, good Friday. flight there is free with points, as is hotel stay. so i'll just be paying for the truck rental and fuel. I have no doubt the Tahoe or Expy could handle the boat, just better safe than sorry.
