Can i swap my 97' signal mirrors and housing with the ones that have the signal on the housing. Is it a tedious process to convert?

 

You should check with someone at a parts house or a mech that KNOWS the mirror systems.
I have heard that because of where the leads are run, that it requires a complete mirror swap, housings and all.
I have no idea though.
You need to get your hands on a factory manual to see how they are put together on the new units.

Are you wanting to put the mirrors with the red light outside of the mirror or replace the mirror glass with the LEDs embeded in the glass?

I put the LED mirrors on mine. It was a direct fit. Took me about 6 hours. You have to replace the black trim piece at the bottom of the window and you have to pull the wiring into the cab and wire into the dash. The kit I had was from Ford. There are kits available from Performance Ford also ( and they cost less than the Ford kit). They are cool looking, makes you want to use your turn signals.

 

I have the led's but the foil on the mirror is peeling. So I thought it was best to have the blinker on the housing. I intend to have the truck 2 more years and to sell it with bad mirrors again is not good.

 

There were problems with the mirror coating peeling in the past. Go into the archives (here) or the Expedition Owners Group website to find the e-mails. I think the companie's name is "Muth". They'll replace them free if you qualify. I have a 99 EB with the LED's and want to convert to the '00.
