Y Pipe mod

Anyone done the y pipe modification on a Expy?

What were the results, worth the trouble? Is there enough room?

I have Gibson shorty headers and 2.5 in Borla single exhaust. The y pipes at Summit and Jegs dont have a 2.5 outlet. I supose the y could be reduced down to 2.5 from 3in.

Standard catalitic converters. JET chip, K&N FIDK

Thanks

I've heard (check posts by dfwbmw) that the Expy "Y" is very clean, unlike the F150's.

not true, at least on my 1997. the "y" pipe was very restrictive...replacing it w/ the flowmaster "y" was a big improvement.

The Y on my 2001 expy is right at the place where you bolt on the cat back system. You could see and feel up into the exhaust after the old muffler was removed that is was smooth and full diameter like it should be. An OK angle also for siphoning. Nothing like what was discribed by other 150 owners. Don't know if all expy's are like this or Ford got the message a year or so ago and started letting the left side of the engine breath for a change.

Later
