My 99 EB/EXP is falling apart little by little
I just want to know if anyone has had similar problems, or even heard of similar problems?
First off, with only 11,000 miles on my 99 EXP. I needed my engine replaced (Head Gaskettes, etc..). The new rebuilt engine arrived at my local Ford dealership and that engine had problems, so they had to order another engine. Before they could put the 2nd new engine in, they had to have a engineer fly in to inspect my vehicle, etc. This process from the time I originally took it in to the dealership, took about 6 weeks. During that 6 weeks, my loaner car was a 98 Ford Contour that I couldn't fit myself in (I'm 6'5" 310 lbs.) not to mention my family.
Secondly, just recently (2 weeks ago) I was hearing a "high pitched" noise when I started my EXP. , and smelling radiator fluid. I took it in to the dealership again, and they told me that they took apart my transmission but couldn't find anything. To make a long story short, I now have a new transmission as well as a engine. My warranty is over on 05/02, so my wife is begging me to sell it before that time so we don't get caught with some major problems after the warranty.
Has anyone had any problems remotely close to something like this? Also, SHOULD I SELL IT OR KEEP IT?!!!

Dude, that sucks. I have a 1998 EB 4x4 that is just coming off lease, and I am picking up a new 2001 4x4 XLT on the same day. Haven't had many problems with my 1998. It was a GREAT truck. What motor is in your 1999?
NVMYEXP,
This seems to be all to common. Search my posts for fife. I have been going through hell with my '99. It needs a fourth engine, and we haven't even addressed other problems yet. I am not getting any satisfaction through Ford, and I am thinking about contacting the media. Sounds radical, but when you get to this point, you become very frustrated. I too am thinking about just getting rid of my truck, less satisfying but alot easier.

Yes I am the original owner. I have read the board ever since I started having problems (12/00). I HAVE seen alot of other people with problems with newer than 1999. Keep in mind it's all relative to mileage. You will find that as people put more mileage on, the problems start to occur regardless of vehicle year.
fife,
I took a look at your post(s) regarding the DSB etc. I must say that I'm really shocked hearing about the similar situations occuring with Fords (EXP, 150's, etc..). I was hoping in the back of my mind, that my problems are unique because I love the EXP. Anyway, I wish you good luck in your endeavor for resloutions. I think I will trade or sell mine prior to the warrenty ending. Also, thanks for the information.

I had the engine replaced at 19K with the cold start knock. 10k miles later still ok but I was suppose to get a new engine not a rebuild but somehow when they went to start my new engine it had a intake manifold leak. They use my original manifold and it worked fine after that.
Now my 99 handle VERY BAD at first, and I did alot of mods to get to handle decent but not completely happy. Now I know that not all 99 handle this way, in fact this problem is not isolated to 99's but some 00 also. In fact is just a few of us.
I did purchase a 100k warranty so I think I'm cover for a while.

Sorry to hear about all of the problems you've had with your Expy. I have a 99 Expy that is about to turn 36K on the odometer and will have it 3 yrs this Nov. Other than a few minor warranty items, crappy Firestones and a new set of front pads, it has been a great vehicle! My wife uses it as her daily "mom-mobile" and absolutely loves the thing! Has even been to Lake Powell and back twice while pulling a 30' Wilderness travel trailer, loaded down with 10 days of supplies, 5 people in the Expy with both A/C's running full blast in the heat of the summer. Already thinking about getting an '03. I enjoyed driving the Expy so much, given the rare opportunity, that I went and got myself a '01 SuperCrew.

Sorry to hear of your problems and hassles. Alot of the engine problems were prior to midyear 99. What was the manufacturing date of the Expy? Other than idiots running red lights and finding out what 6K of metal will do to their van, mine's fine. I did buy the 60mo./100K warranty as I have learned from the misery of others.
