Angry More on faded window molding

Awhile back, somone posted something about using RTV Silicone to repair the appearance of the faded moulding below the windows....I couldn't find the post, but tried it and it looks like complete *****. Anyway, does anyone know the part #'s of these peices, as I am just going to go to the dealer and get new ones...

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

T

Here's an idea for ya...

Tommy,
Take a look at the mouldings on the Lincoln Navigator. I put a set on my Expy and it looks sweet... I'd give you the part numbers but I'm sure they are not the same as the one's that would fit on yours.... Mine is a 2001

I fixed mine by having them replaced, under warranty. It's the only thing I've been able to come up with to make Ford pay for in warranty in about 18 months. Probably cost them about $7.

Dang, I always talked trash about Fords and here I am driving one and I can't get anything to mess up. I'ts spoiling a lifetime of trash talk.

Talking Trash[

Yeah Family, I used to talk much trash about Fords, but here I am too....Unreal what the future brings, huh?

I actually tried to have Ford replace mine, but no dice...

Are the Lincoln ones chrome? I don't really care what I get on there, just something that looks better than what I have!!!

Thanks guys!

Tommy,
They have about an 1 1/2" wide chrome strip right down down the center.

Try fordpartsonline, they now have an online catalog and you can find all the stuff you need and they are probably cheaper than what you could get at a nearby dealer. I had mine replaced and I think they're about $30 a piece.

I tried the sealant as well. It can look good but its a real pain trying to get it all off (in fact I'm still trying to get it all off.)I did this on one side.

I did have better success with a can of spray silicone and a toothbrush. At first it seems like the molding will just keep sucking up the spray, but eventually it starts to darken up.

I did it a week ago and so far it looks good.

I tried some of the tire black spray on the side with the sealant. It gave it a good shine, but leaves a residue.

Question

Has anyone thought about a trip to a body shop to have them shot with a paint color of your choice with the "flex" additive ike they use on bumpers?
You could paint them up to the point of the hard crease where it turns up about a 1/2" to meet the window.
Just a thought.
Based upon this happening to everyone else, that will probably be the route I go with when the ones on my 01 X go, and the dealership won't replace them anymore.

Maybe you could get some Duplicolor black paint and paint it yourself. I have used Castrol tire shine. It works excellent and dries to a shiny finish.

Another way to protect the Trim

I have tried many things and have had the trim replaced 3 time by the dealer (we are really close due to all the issues that I have had with the truck).

Any way, I finally found a great product that really does the trick (and you can use it on other areas as well). Mother's make a great produt (I am sorry, I do not remember the exact name). However, it is shine gel. You can apply it to anything except paint and chrome. It works great! The best thing is that when used on the tires, if it rains or something, they still look great.

Only one downside. The do collect dust. BIG time. However, if you keep a rag in the truck, you can wipe them down and you are fine.

Have to look for the Mother Gel. I will check when I get home and see if I can get the exact name. Even comes with the applicator for the tires.
