97 Expedition Supercharged

I found the above vehicle about 1.5 hrs away from me with 190K and a broken rear brake line. I am supposed to go out to take a look at it. What do you think it is worth and what should I look for. I have owned 3 Explorers and 1 Excursion but not a Expedition before?

I'm trying to get information on the truck itself and the supercharger. I posted in the supercharger section and the truck section so you can say 2 so far. If I did something wrong my apologies just trying to get my questions to the experts. Thanks for you response though and per your comment I cleaned up the post (no run on).

well, I myself am done trying to help you

#1 you don't know what you are even looking at and you won't answer any questions

#2 your multiple threads did nothing but confuse yourself (which is why it's against the site rules)

#3 have a great day and good luck on the truck

Hey why you getting all worked up about my postings, I am just trying to get a little help and join the legion of 5.4 drivers not a flamer or troll.

1. I told you it is a 97 Expedition with 190K with a Vortech supercharger I saw in a posting. I am supposed to look at it later tonight. I looked at both threads where was I asked questions?

2. I asked one question pertaining to the Vortech itself and possible trans modification on the supercharger section and on the Expedition section I posted pertaining to the Expedition itself. Maybe I should have clarified that I was asking what problems the vehicle itself has at high miles boosted like balljoints, CV, U joints, axles, 4x4 system, etc. I will look up the moderator and have him close one so I won't be a violator on here. I feel like a convict for just asking a question.

3. Thanks and thank you for your help hope I didn't step on your anyones toes too hard.

Sounds like a fun vehicle to own! Condition is everything. Ask about service records, when the supercharger was installed etc. Don't be afraid of the mileage if it was well maintained. You need to know that fluids were changed when they should be...ie: gears, trans, transfer case, engine oil, coolant, and even brake fluid. Are you dealing with the original owner? Ask to jack the truck up and feel the front wheels for play in steering, wheel bearings, ball joints etc. Check the boots on the front axles for tears or leaking grease...you can check for play in the axle shafts too. If you find any rust (especially under the vehicle), you can assume it will spread soon so, if it can be repaired that should be figured into the cost of buying.

It's a crap shoot for anyone if there is no service history.....maybe if the vehicle has a sticker from a dealership on it, you can contact the dealership for records. At 190,000 you are taking chances if you are without knowing.

A Vortech can cost several thousand to install when new so, it's worth about a third of that on the truck, if working properly. If your haggling, I wouldn't make a big deal about the SC....I would deal with the listed value of the truck itself and go after a price somewhere below that.

I went out and took a look at the truck. The mileage showed in that it had rust forming aroundf the wheel wells and the underside of the truck but can be expected for the Midwest. The engine was cold and started up quick with no noises. The seller is selling for a friend who bought it from his boss (who also let his son drive it). The seller had no information on the Vortech or any upgrades. I saw a blue round device with hoses going to it which I think is the FMU so I doubt it has larger injectors or has been tuned. He lived in a community with a lot of short streets so the drive was with a lot of turns and only one time did I give it full gas and it pulled good with no strange noises (besides the hum of supercharger). It didn't shift like it had a shift improvement but I haven't driven a stock Expedition to compare. Given the high mileage and lack of my personal knowledge of superchargers coupled with lack of knowledge of this vehicles maintenance history I passed (for now) but was selling at the low 2K's so actually it is cheaper than non SC Expeditions around here. Again thanks for everyone's help!

Sounds like they're just trying to unload it...they would have supplied service records if it was taken care of properly.
