Anybody gotten their General Tires replaced by Ford for vibrations? The Service Bulletin states that some Expy experience vibration with these tires. I have some vibration on my 2001 and might bring it in to get the tires replaced or a least try. They only have 3700 miles on them but I don't want it to raddle things loose. It is only for 17 inch wheels. I will let you know.....

You can always call the service department first to find out if your vehicle is even affected by the TSB. If it is for the 17" then the odds are that yours is NOT affected. But that might same you time and worries. Then if your vehicle is not affected, then to play it safe, you might still want to take it in for the vibration concern. The tires may be out of balance, which can cause uneven wear on them. But tire balance is only covered to 12 months or 12k miles.

Do you have the TSB #? I hadn't heard about that. I've tried finding excuses to get rid of them and even used to refer to them as marshmellows. Although, I'm not sure now what I would replace them with. I'd decided on Pirelli Scorpion Zeros (285-60-17) but I've seen a lot of poor feedback as far as wear, and tracking poorly on sub par roads. Sizes are somewhat limited with the 17"x7.5" wheels, unless you want to go back with the same 275-60-17.
I have to say though, once I installed the Edelbrocks and Hellwig, I've been suprised at these Generals. They aren't as bad as they seemed before. I even tried not rotating them hoping for bad wear but about 14k miles since the only rotation and they don't look bad and still ride and handle ok. After the Edelbrocks, I even had to reduce the air pressure back to close to the 26 lbs Ford recommends.
dfwbmw, if you ever drive east on 1171 (like from Bridlewood) and turn on Old Settlers, you know what a fun corner that can be now. I easily take it as 40-45 accelerating.
I've even lit them up out of the hole a time or 2

I don't have the TSB# but there is a link on the homepage here that can link you to it. But any service department will be more than happy to assist, (even on the phone). On the downside, if you do get them replaced, warranty will replace them with the same tire. If you want another size, brand or etc. you will need do that on your own. The upside, you have a new tire warranty that will probably last longer than the Ford base warranty.

I have these exact tires and vibrations through the steering wheel at various speeds. Not bad but noticable. I have already tracked down a coupe of raddles and don't really want it to get worse.

Also, Ford's fix might be just to ballance the tires again. That would be fine with me I like the tires as long as it fixes the vibration. I cannot get it looked at for a few weeks I will let you know how it turns out. The dealer could not work me in today.

All this time and I didn't realize you had to "toggle" over to the TSB's from recalls.
Learn something new every day.
So I'm surprised. I don't have a vibration but there is a TSB concerning these tires pulling, or drifting. Heck ya. Any road that has a slight crest, it's pulling down to the low side. It's really annoying. TSB 8094. I'm glad to find that out.
Shoot, there are a bunch of TSB's luckily I'm not affected by many at all. The popping exhaust has me wondering it they're talking about the A/C condensation that drips, well runs off onto the right side cat converter and sounds like dropping water into hot grease. Of course, causing long term rust.

Yes, my 2001 Nav had my Continental's replaced with less than 200 miles on them. The dealer replaced them with BFG Long Trails because Michelin doesn' t make the Nav size. They are dif from Exp sizes.

If any of you guys are looking for better tires then the Grabbers get yourself 4 Yokohama Geolanders. I just went out and bought some which were $80 a piece and these tires are way better then the General Grabbers. The tires I have are the 255-70-R16.

To get the stck size on mine, there's not much to choose from. 275-60x17. 285-60x17 is even tougher. Pirelli Scorpion Zero's are what I was going for, but I've read too much feedback that they are wonderful.......for the 10k-15k miles they last.
