Question '99 Navigator upper ball joints.

I have a '99 Navigator with 130k miles, and a split upper ball joint boot. I've only had it for 18 months, so I'm not sure if the upper control arms are original or not. They are stamped "TRW", but I don't know if TRW made the OE arms for this car. They are sealed (no grease nipples). Anyway, I can't find ANY replacement upper ball joints online. I really don't want to get into replacing the whole control arm, so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great!

its not that hard to replace the whole arm.

If you go the replacement arm route, go with Moog arms, after you buy the arm the first time, you can buy replacement Moog balljoints that fit their arms.

I dont remember seeing anything like TRW stamped on my original arms. I know TRW brand from brake parts. Pads/Calipers etc

It's not that it's too hard to change the arm (maybe easier depending on rust)... It's the extra money! An upper ball joint is what, $30? A control arm is about $85 plus an alignment. There's nothing wrong with the arm itself or the bushings either.

If the arms I have are aftermarket then it makes no sense to replace them with aftermarket so that I can replace just the joints next time... I should be able to now!!

upper ball joints

Its much easier and not much more expensive to just change the upper control arm; and, you get new bushings. Plan on getting an alignment when you are done. Raybestos makes control arms with grease fittings

I would go to www.rockauto.com and get the Moog upper control arms. The ball joints are not serviceable on the stock ones. Also TRW is the factory originals for that truck.

You will have to drop the money for an alignment so I would double check everything else in there while you are at it.

My wife had a lower ball joint break backing out of the driveway and while in there I ended up replacing the entire front end as everything was original and shot.

I used Moog joints the first time i changed them, but the Moog boots were splitting within 18 mos. Used Raybestos the next time. No problems.
