Angry 4 Pin Flat Wiring Harness for Towing Lights

I have a 2001 XLT Exp with the Sport Appearance Package, it came with a 4 pin flat wiring harness connector for towing lights (most of the XLTs and EBs come with the 7 pin wiring harnesses). NONE OF THE 4 PIN (TRAILER END) WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS ON THIS EARTH FIT MY 2001! Does an adapter exist somewhere, I've search the internet high & low? Did the Ford dealer forget to give me an adapter when I bought the truck?

One expensive option I have is to install a 7 pin wiring harness then add the 7 to 4 pin adapter. Ford wants $70.00 for a 7 pin wiring harness.

I don't understand, the 4-pin flat connector is the industry standard. Have you tried U-Haul or an RV center? I haven't had any trouble with my connector, other than corrosion.

The 4 pin connector on the 2001 Exp XLT SAG is mounted to the underside of the bumper with a protective cover and shield. 4 pin connectors are the industry standard, they will not fit my 2001 Exp. I have tried several manufacturers. I am going to U-Haul tonight.

One other thing to consider. Is the connector on you trailer the same type? If so, could it be possible that it's the same gender as the truck's? I've towed many rental trailers with both my '01 Expy and F150 with no problem in this area. Seems a bit strange.

Had the same problem on my SCrew. The pins mate up, but the rubber part of the connector is the same gender.

I happen to have a gender changer. It has 2 connectors with about 2 feet of wire between them.

I'm sure any reputable trailer hitch dealer has it.

If I remember correctly, I took my pocket-knife and cut the rubber from around that one pin on the truck's connector. Boat and other trailers have worked fine. No problems as a result of the 'missing' material.

Thumbs up I'll sell you mine!

McBrady-
I swapped the Ford OEM 7-Pin round job for a 4-pin flat connector. It was cheaper to change that, then to replace the connectors on my "towable" items.

I'm willing to sell you mine for $40 + shipping. If you are interested, let me know.
