Ford Design Engineers SUCK!!!!
This will be my last Ford and my last Expedition. After driving many Ford products over the years the most recent were two Expeditions. Neither of them was reliable for any length of time. All the known defects this forum has documented apply to both of of my Expeditions. One 1989 E.B. and a 2005 E.B. The '98 had four , YES 4, sets of upper and lower a frames, four sets of brake rotors and calipers, eight ignition coils (cop) three sets of tires ruined by Ford's **** poor designed front end a-frames. One set of struts. A rear axle seal, with made another set of rear brakes necessary. Then there is the heater core change that is expensive and the process is outrageous. The 90 deg. rubber connector on the end of the PVC vacuum line collapsed while on a trip to Texas and a FORD dealership tried to charge $1600.00 to fix it.The 2005 had a ticking noise in the 5.4 V-8 and was explained away that this is typical on these engines. At 90000 now you should hear it! I have been asked if it is a diesel. The right window at 65000 mi. will barely go up and down. The heated seats no longer work and an estimate was $600.00. It is time to think about changing the spark plugs. After reading the ridicules experiences 5.4 V-8 owners have been through, the hell with it. While driving in daylight you cant see the gauge display because of light reflecting off the top of the steering wheel extension to the dash. Turn on the parking or headlights during daytime the dash miles readout all but disappear. Two ignition coils, 2 exhaust manifold gaskets, a set of tires and alignment prematurely due Ford's front end NEW DESIGN.
I will get screwed again, very soon when this is traded off and it will not be for a Ford product. Thanks to all the forum members for ALL the help with my Ford nightmares. Shame on Ford for not standing behind their known problems with what could be a great vehicle. I'm just sayn!

shame on you for thinking that vehicles (regardless of the brand) don't need to be maintained...
I may be wrong, but I think he's trying to say, - Fords not idiot proof ?
Hey Chris I can tell you are frustrated and don't blame you one bit I hate spending money too =). I have gone through the hassle of dealing with issues that may or may not be commonly experienced but the truth of the matter is that all vehicles regardless of "Make" will eventually need repairs or maintenance. Yes this includes Honda and Toyota, which I have owned and let me tell you them honda's have bad transmissions period. went out twice on my 99 Odyssey. A/C went on on my 94 accord (@130k miles) and 99 Odyssey (97k miles) That stunk cause it was in the summer while on a trip to west TX. As for Toyota well I think it is obvious that they have their issues right now. Nissan (Maxima) have always been good to me that is why I have owned 4 of them in my life. All of them were great cars in fact my current max has 179k miles (2002) and that thing can still churps the tires with ease. I am sure some poster may say that Nissans are the worse cars, you never know. Hopefully you can find a great reliable vehicle for and your family..Have a great day. =)

A friend of mine put 200,000 trouble free miles on his 99 Expedition and is well on his way to 200,000 on his 2007 Expedition. Sometimes, it's luck or maybe proper maintenance, whatever. I have 119,000 on my 2005 truck and it has been a good one.

I feel you man...after a 1700 dollar cam phaser job, and a 623 spark plug job, and an air conditioner that will not get cold in the summer time, no mattter how many times I take it to the dealer and they say its within specs. And dont tell me about maintaining a vehicle. I love my truck. But after all that, this may be my last ford as well.
dont worry he posted that on expeditionforum. blah blah blah. i have 158K+ miles on my rig. and i have a friend with 250K+ on his. so proper maintenance works. a little money here and there. so much into it you could buy a new truck, but its paid for so why bother?
2009 Ram Laramie 4x4 crew, outside air temp sensor caused climate control problems... 2 trips to dealer, front bumper needed adjust...1 trip, tires severely cupped at 20000 miles... Had to replace, steering wheel shake and vibrates like washing machine...5 trips to dealer between 25000 and 32000, ac actuator recall....2 trips.... Leak in evaporator coil no ac...1 week and 1 trip, all 4 rotors warped, rotors turned new brake pads, still shakes and vibrates but not as bad, paint flaking off rear bumper... I'm sure I forgot something... They know me by name when I walk in.... Just saying all brands have their problems
All I can say is Ive owned
7 Garbage Motors
5 Chrysler
2 Toyotas
1 Mazda (Ford)
8 Fords
Sorry to hear all the bad luck you've had but in my experience the Ford vehicles are far superior to the others and Dodge next,
So my advise to you is to go out and buy a Government Motors vehicle to help keep them in buisness and in a couple of years when you've only gotten to drive that heep the couple of months its been out of the shop, you will apreciate what you had and realize no vehicle is perfect but Fords are by far a lot closer than the others!
Just My Real opinion! not what I heard or my buddy or dad said, but a real opinion!

I had a 98,99,and 00 expeditions. All of them served very well, the only issue I ever had was a ball joint going bad in the 00 Expy. I worked for a chevy dealer back in 05 and you DO NOT want a GM product. A tahoe has 19 different 'modules' which all go haywire more times then you care to know. ALL, I mean every single GM product leaks oil somewhere or other. If you get one with rack and pinion steering - EVERY one leaks. Take a look at the majority of fords, even those with over 100k on them, no leaks. You must be getting lemons or drive them till something breaks. I'll grant you this though, I'd never consider buying any 03-06 Expy's though, cam phaser problems and the breaking spark plug issues. But hey, all manufacturers have their 'bad' years

GL with those chebys and dodges and even worse Toyotas
