2000 expedition suspension ?
2000 expedition suspension ?
My dad has a 2000 expedition 4x4, eddy buer (sry for the misspelling) edition. He wants to add a set of overload springs or airbags to the rear end to help with towing. Trouble is it came stock with the air ride suspenion.
What are his options here?

Eddie Bauer. How much is he going to tow? I,m sure there are companies that do aftermarket air bags, but to go with a spring[if possible] that would be rated at a large two capacity would be tough. Seems a spring specifically rated to two xxx would create a bouncy or lighter rear end when not towing
thats why we're leaning alittle more toward a second set of bags or a heavier set.
I'm not sure how the air ride set up works, but does the whole rear end hieght rely on the hieght sensor on the rear axle? Or is their a certain pressure the bags are maintained at?

nvm, I just had an idea how to rig up springs but it don't matter now.
I talked the old man into buying either a 3/4 ton suburban or an excursion, so issue resolved, now back to fixing my pile.
Thanks anyways!

I have the trailer package and air suspension. Tow ing capacatiy is either 8000 0r 9000 lbs with the stock air suspension on an EB with trailer pkg.
Read the specs on the original and see if it had the towing package If it does it will have the socket to the bottom left of the rear license plate for trailer lights
The are ride level sensors that adjust the ride hieght in the vehicle. If he doesnt hear it coming on when people get in or when he loads the read it might be a bad sensor / compressor or bag. There is a swith under the passenger side cick plate that turns it on and off Also if off or a problem a yellow light on right side of dash gauges

Little Luke,
Good call on convincing the upgrade. I want to get a diesel or Excursion also. I tow my 7000 lb travel trailer twice a year with my Expedition and I'm thankful it's only twice a year for a distance of 120 miles round trip. I'm lucky to get 45 mph without reving at 4500 and if I'm going into any sort of wind.........
yeah, he bought a 2003 4x4 limited excursion with a v10. we love it. was going the desiel route, but 29,000 miles for $19,900, couldn't beat it.
I'm in the process of buys a set of air springs and an onborad compressor for it right now. First loaded trailer made it squat a little. He told me to fix it, I asked if the ride was bad.
and he said "No, I just want that big SOB to be looking you dead on no matter what."
