Replacing 5.4

Who has replaced theirs? Where and how did you buy the replacement? Anyone do a complete L swap? I need costs involved. Long story, but this is the avenue Im looking at right now.
Thanks

The main issue is to find something, COMPLETE top to bottom[ready to go,add fluids and access.] Ive got a safe estimate of $2500-$3000[ a good friend] I doubt I can find anything ready to drop in for close to that

Just my 2cents...Goin' thru the swap right now, my engine is seized up, and picked up a 02' expedition 5.4, 51,000 mi., for $1350.00.

Doin' the work myself of course, but even a reman was around $2000 and up!

Upside was not just a longblock, but everything to the top except alt., starter, p/s pump, and a/c.

Went thru car-part.com , they have a nationwide network, and i picked up mine locally by chance, but a good site to start from!

I put in a long block. With the time it took to replace engine it is worth the extra cost to have a brand new engine.Mine was a 5.4 in a 1998. Had to swap over intake exhaust ,timing cover, pan, and valve covers off mine ,but they gave me all the gaskets. That was easy part. Swapping engines is a lot of work. They did not design the engine so it comes out the top. I paid $1750 and they wanted my core back after I finished the install. It is running fine with a rough idle, I think I need to reboot my PCM.P.S. It takes alot of patience and two people to do this job. It took us a week of man hours for two people to do this swap.

With the right tools it really isnt that hard. Worst part about it is the size of the motor and lack of room. Tranny didnt have to come out on my 4x4. 2 guys, 14 hours over a total of a few days and being generous, lots of beer breaks. I say go for it. I picked up a 5.4L with only 10k on it for 1200, which included the whole truck so I was able to use a ton more parts.

I ended up selling it and driving the 04 now. Selling the 04 to get back into a first generation[one of my previous] that my father owns. Then, up up and away. Thank you for all the replies
