Blinking/flashing Under hood lamp

So it's been cold here, but new battery 2-3 yrs ago, maybe less. Haven't started for a week. Pop the hood to fill the washer fluid and the light blinks 5 or 6 times then goes solid.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that was an indicator of something, but can't remember what or where I read it.

I started just to see if the batt was low, and it cranked right up.

Does this mean something?

More than likely that the mercury switch is not sufficiently deflected. In most of these trucks there is a small mercury switch that detects when the hood is sufficiently raised.

Many simply become loose after years, and usually remounting the bulb socket does the trick. Normally you cannot access the mercury bulb in the base so consider replacing the bulb base.

Other than that it is usually a simple electrical repair. I could be something else, but I believe that I'll be closest to right
Good Luck
