2001 Expy Help Needed
2001 Expy Help Needed
Ok guys... time to brush up on your knowledge of older Expy's...
Need some help with the following:
This is on a 2001 Expy EB with the 5.4L and the MACH Audio System (overhead rear entertainment, no sunroof).
* Remote Power Mirrors : Drivers and Passengers mirrors will only go up, down, occasionally left, but definitely not right.
-- My thoughts are the switch here. Thoughts or have you run into this one before?
* Drivers side, 2nd row door will all of the sudden (past couple of days) not open from the inside (child locks are not on...)
* Headlights : AUTO on headlights... strange one. The headlights outside will come on, interior lights on the dashboard will not. If you turn the headlight dial to the right for a manual headlight on... the dash lights come on....?
* MACH Audio System : This one has all happened in the past couple of months:
- There is no "all seats" mode any more... it is there on the radio, but there is no change when cycling between Drivers Seat, Rear Seat, All Seats. Drivers seat puts it on the front. Rear Seat puts it in the rear, however the All Seats mode does NOTHING and it basically retains the settings from the last mode it was in, depending on if you are cycling through the menu with all down arrows or all up arrows.
- The sub no longer makes a sound (this one is new in the past week).
My wife and I love this truck and its still got a long way to go. Its at 99700 and just had its 100K mi major service (whatever the mongo major service is around 90-100k) prior to a long road trip in July.
Thanks in advance for whatever kind of help you can offer if you have run into these or similar issues so I can do dig into correcting these issues. As always, will post back here when I find the root cause..
Thanks
Greg

My power mirrors have pretty stopped functioning properly. They used to work pretty well, but I don't use the option much, so when I tried to do it, they would only move outwards. Doesn't really surprise me, though, since the 250 does the same thing. Not sure about my sis' Mustang.
Either way, the motor still works, so maybe you just have to lube the wires/motor/whatever mechanism to free everything up.
As for the door, I'd try taking off the door panel to take a look inside. I can give you instructions on that if you'd like.
About the headlights, does the dash light up if you manually turn on the headlights (as opposed to doing it in Auto.)
As for the audio, is getting a new, aftermarket HU an option? It'd probably sound better, and could probably still use the sub.

I got the Mirrors working again today (while waiting in the drive thru line at Chick-Fil-A)...
I popped out the panel that the window switches are in.
I popped out the mirror switch from the top of the door panel (with a penny).
Pulled the connector loose from the back of the switch and reseated it...
THEY WORK!!!...
Got back home, ate lunch, popped it apart again, clean the connector contacts with a little contact cleaner from the local electronics shop (NOTE: The kind that is also safe for plastic), dropped a little bit of conductive contact grease on there and popped it back together... all is well now with the mirrors.
As far as the HU, I am going to pull it tomorrow to see what options there are.
Something is up with that stupid thing... the other settings where you can change the EQ modes to Jazz Club, Stadium, Church, etc... that menu option no longer appears on the radio.
Thanks for the door panel instructions, i will try that tomorrow too.

Heh, I narrowed down my mirror problem to the switch as well. Opened it up and played around with the inside contacts, and now the left direction on the toggle works. The down is still bad, so I guess I'll eventually order a new one. Only 15 from Tasca.
