Foglights and high beams

Is there a mod to make your foglights stay on with the high beams? I've had the mod done on my F150 for some time now and was wanting to do it on the wife's '08 Expedition.

Yes I am. I have it done on my '07 F150. It's completely different on an '08 Expedition.

Not putting a pushbar on a 2wd Limited.

it was just a suggestion. sounds like it's allowable for 4wd, or any submodel besides a limited.

I'll eventually figure it out. I was just hoping someone else already had.

How fancy did Ford get with the redesigned Expedition's electrical system? Is the fog light relay controlled by the headlight switch, like on my 2006, or are they computer controlled like the newer Dodge vehicles? If the fog light relay is still controlled by the headlight switch, it shouldn’t be a big deal to rewire them to be “on” when the high beams are activated. Since I haven't reviewed the fog light schematic for the newer Expeditions, this is all guesswork on my part. If the fog light relay is still controlled by the headlight switch, then most likely 12+vdc is sent from the headlight switch, through the multifunction switch in the steering column and over to the coil of the fog light relay. When the headlight switch is turned to the “Parking Lights” position, the fog light switch is pulled “out” and the stalk of the multifunction switch is in the “low beam” position, 12+vdc is sent from the headlight switch, which flows through the multifunction switch and over to the coil of the fog light relay, which energizes the relay coil and turns on the fog lights. When the stalk of the multifunction switch is moved to the “high beam” position, the aforementioned 12+vdc feed from the headlight switch to the fog light relay coil is cut, which de-energizes the relay and turns the fog lights off. Now if this is how your system works, all you'd need to do is rewire the 12+vdc feed so that it bypasses the multifunction switch.

Our Expedition looks to be completely different in the wiring for the lighting. I haven't had a chance to fully get in to it yet, but just going by the electrical diagram, it looks a lot different.

If you really wanted to, you could just put them on a separate switch.

Defeats the whole purpose of auto headlights.

I see, didn't know you use that. Haven't used mine since I installed HIDs.

As a side note, I didn't realize they went back to having a power distribution box in the engine bay for the newer Expys. Also, looking through your manual, I didn't see a fog lamp or high beam relay. Interesting indeed.

Have you measure the wires that go to the headlight switch to see what is getting different power when you choose different positions. Maybe wire the fogs directly to the battery, and have a relay that energizes when you turn on the fogs (from one of the wires behind the HL switch.) Just a thought.

I've got the electrical manual all Ford techs use and it lists the foglight relay in the distribution box in the engine bay as non serviceable. Now I'm not sure if that's how Ford lists all relays or not. Since my wife works 3rd shift at the hospital I haven't had a chance to look at it closely yet but plan to over the holiday weekend.
