07 expy stereo time :)
eh, guess I'll start at the begining, I got a pos double din touch screen panasonic dvd player (can't skip from song to song on a music vid or scroll songs on the ipod) or sort thru songs on the ipod while it's playing..
anyway, threw in a tipro 15" in a 5 cube box after displacements tuned to 28hz ran it off one of my xp1400ds (this is the temp substage)
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoid=63896620
the real substage is in progress since I'm laid off I have time to work on it
two separate 4.4 cube boxes with kerfed ports, 78+in^2 port per box tuned to 40hz as AQ recommends it's basically a DD/AQ spec ported box lol aside from the kerf. in them I'll house a pair of AQ HD3 15" d2 subs, each sub will be run off a pair of crossfire xp1400ds strapped. each amp I'm thinking of doing 1 or 2 large (120lbs) batts for their 6v amps with high ah like an L-16 category batt (not made for this but I'm on a budget since I'm laid off) gonna do some testing on my termlab soon as it's done and I'm REALLY hoping to take it's class in the soundoff on the 14th which is like a week and a half away LOL so I'll just have to see, I still need to glass the interior completely and do the second box. this weekend I'll be picking up the batts and my battery chargers that I have loaned out to friends. installing them and reconing the subs early next week and final testing no later than friday... hoping to really get into the 150 realm which isn't too likely but it's possible lol obviously being that I've owned a TL for a long while I'm pretty dedicated so I'm capable of building it if it can't do 150s yet it will in the next few months
here's the process of the box and the practice pieces before I bent the actual port. this is actually the 1st time I've ever made a kerfed port and I've never even seen it done, just some pix of bent ones and some advice on a different forum of a couple guys explaining how to do it to some other guy lol. I understood what needed to be done tho as I said I've been doing this a while so it's not that big a deal pita to line up tho I must say clean radius and to get the other box to match it is gonna be a real PITA lol anyway, more pixors
this was my 1st test piece...

here again bent, not the smoothest bend but it bent...

here's the 2nd test piece... a little smoother bend, had more notches..

decided I was tired of practicing after two and did the port... really should've paid attention to what I did and if I did maybe I'd of put the correct amount of cuts instead of the same amount as the 1st test piece LOL but it did come out lol

thas about it for now, will get updates later maybe this weekend I'll have more done. working tomorrow and friday (been laid off thus project time lol) so more this weekend and next week I think I'm back laid off so more then also... but u get the idea, picture two of the above box, the sub on it is what I'm going to recone and the pair will be run off the amps in the above pix only two are in the boxes the other two one is in my titan the other in the wife's expy

made the second box but my recones aren't in yet, and my batts aren't done being charged so I didn't put both boxes and I'm running the sub above in it til the recones come in so I can put both in. and my batts will need to charge siginficantly before the competition on saturday... here's more pix and a new set of vids with the one sub on one amp. I'll have the pair of subs on 4 amps by saturday

box all rounded over just before I put it in...

you can see my batts in the background lol, house 6v solar type batts... got um used for super cheap so I figured I'd try them. that's a kinetik HC2400 next to them for size comparison that's a 2400amp battery or something..

here's them vids

I need a camera man so I can focus on playing with the volume **** and finding good songs LOL... but it works I suppose or now, you get the idea lol

thanks, the true test will be when I put the pair of AQs in there with both boxes, the 4 big batts and 4 amps lol. will get loud but it'll be coming out shortly as my wife won't wanna leave all that stuff in there long.. but I'm hoping I get get her close to or over a 150. I'm thinking it'll at least get close... oh yeah, my recones came if shortly after I made the last post

did a dry fit with baskets/motors, but I need to see if I gotta use the spacers. then I'll recone them both, and try out one

can see the spacer between the basket and magnet on the sub on the left... I only have one so if I need them I'll be using nuts or something on the one on the right

recones are installed and glue is drying, tomorrow afterwork I should be getting it all in... not too sure on the glue job it'll be a small miracle if the subs hold together
but other than that it's LOOKING like it'll be loud LOL
some custom mids I made tonight lmfao

so I went to pull the shims out in the morning and glue the dustcaps on for a completed set of recones.. low and behold the corner of all three shims comes of in the coils on one sub, couldn't even see it at 1st so I kept putting one coil on my 24v battery drill battery and poping the sub up and down til I could see it, then worked on it after work and finally got the piece out...

my buddy at work who's been an installer for years laughed and said my sub was rubbish. so after work I finished getting it out to prove him wrong!

so I glue the dustcaps on finally thinking I'm done and ready to move forward with the install...

at this time I was pretty satisfied with my progress, so I took some better pix of the one box since I was about to take it out...

keep in mind both boxes fit like this side by side as they're 24" wide outter diameter.. LAYING DOWN....
go back to work on the setup, nope wasn't done with issues yet, I had an issue with the surrounds coming off the baskets AFTER I already glued the dustcaps on so I couldn't even recenter the coils in the gap... so I peeled one off the basket all the way around and one about a 5" strip. gorilla glued them both back down and hoped the spiders didn't come off too... this is the day before the competition yesterday LOL sad I know but that's how I do it majority of the time. here's them with gorilla glue drying...

I used gorilla glue as it holds solid and I had it laying around, oh and it can dry quick.
I decided to keep moving forward despite the fact that I thought the subs were gonna blow apart upon high volume listening... turned out I got it done everything installed yesterday 10am, but I had to go home and get ready and leave by 12pm to make it to the competition... so I filled up the tank, came home washed the baby up, washed myself up and headed on out... get to the comp everything is functional... turn it up on my run and when I get it up really loud it starts fading in and out... I ended the 1st run with a 148.1 on music car closed new TL which is pretty loud...
go back into the car pull the baby seat out, fold the middle of the back seat down, duck tape the subs to the box so they get a good seal to help them play a little louder.. ended up doing a 149 flat on a test tone of 46hz... still fading in and out the volume...
so I finish, win my class (default as no one else was in it but I was the 2nd loudest of the day) pull to the side and play music, still fading it and out at high volumes...
I decided to play with it today since I was happy with how loud it was but the inconsistency was driving me nuts with it fading in and out, I pulled the subs today and let played test tones with them free air on the 2nd row seats folded down. isolated it to the passenger side sub, the amps were going into protect for some reason (I run a pair of amps strapped to each sub) finally after trying a few things I realize my input sensitivity on the processor was way up causing issues, so I fix it and put the subs back in backwards only to find I had one of the motor vents taped up from when I got them shipped to me oddly enough the other side was the one shutting off lol anyway, got it figured out I believe and it gets stupid loud now and I'm gonna hit up another comp in 3 weeks and expect over a 150... hope that I can get it! here's more pix, and why I emphasized the boxes can lay down but the batts block the ports from breathing so I had to stand them up so it could breathe I'm working on getting it situated so they go back down as I believe it'll be louder.

everything installed...

the batts all wired up...

the subs out while testing..

the subs inverted after the testing...

that's how it looks currently. it's NOT supposed to be a wall, I had to reconfigure it on the fly as it wouldn't fit once I bought those huge batts lol. works out tho as like I said I pulled a 149 on the new TL with LOTS of issues. so that would've been a 156 on an audio control. by the time I stop I'll be up around a 160 on the old mic's I figure lol, it's a stretch but I'll try to hit a 150 at this next comp in 3 weeks for a start lol

huh, never did update... I ended up making a battery box after the 1st comp that allowed the batts to be just behind the 2nd row seating. so I could upfire the subs as originally planned. but score ended up dropping and on ear it wasn't as loud either
then after winning my class at the soundoff (took 3 trophies actually and pretty sure I'd of got 4 but stayed out of best over class) anyway, after the 2nd comp I pulled all the sounds and sold most of it so I could give the wife her expy back and drive my titan again and ended up picking up some quads and now spend all my time trying to ride and mod my quads lol. here's some pix of my setup before tearing it all out..
painted the boxes lightly as I only had a little paint (did it a few hours before the show, it was a night show so it did look nice in the dark lol)
