Adding Auto Lift Gate

Anyone added an aftermarket auto lift gate for their EXPY?

My wife said, it would be nice to have it but ours didnt come with it so I don't know how hard it would be to add it.

Thoughts?

I didn't think to search for that, we've had the head liner out a few times for AV install, and i thought I remember seeing a mounting area and some extra wire harness's back there. Not sure, may give up on this quest.

yeah what are the chances of finding an expy thats being parted out that actually had that option or even finding a navigator, why don't you just ask your dealership about it ??

Hmmm, I actually wonder how hard/easy it would be to retrofit the OEM option in an 03 (08 shouldn't be that much more different.) Need to take a look in the manual...

Buddy of mine just bought a (sigh) used 07 Tahoe with the auto lift gate. My first question was if it would stop closing if something were trapped between the gate and the bumper. No, it will not stop on the Tahoe. Good thing he got his body out quickly enough when we were testing it.

The Auto Lift Gate was available on the 07 and above.

I have it on my 08 EL Limited.

mechanically, the install would be a simple bolt up. remove that left rear interior panel and replace it with the auto-lift panel.

then bolt up the auto-lift unit and attach the lift arm to the rear hatch.

Ford likes to pre-wire stuff. so I would personally look behind that left rear interior panel first. if there is a wiring harness there just hanging out, odds are that it belongs to the lift gate.

then check the dash above the radio by the hazard button. if you have a harness hanging out there as well, you are probably good to go on the electrical side.

This was one of the wife's "must haves" for our Expy. I used it the other day for my pup....she was in the back and I opened up the gate via the dash switch to let her out. She jumped back in when she was done....I didn't even have to get out of the seat. Handy little feature there...
