Post Rear Sensing System retrofit on '99 EB

Has anyone attempted to add the rear sensing system to their Expy? My buddy has a 2000 with this system installed from the factory and he loves it. I called my dealer and all the parts are available. From what he can see on his Ford parts computer, you need 4 sensors ($12 ea), wiring harness that goes from each sensor to the Control Box, the Control Box (this houses the speaker), and finally, another wiring harness that taps into the reveres lights. The factory version also has an override switch incase you are backing up with a trailer, the system can be turned off.

Any comments would be great.

Thanks,

Tom

Come on, I am sure someone on this site has at least investigated this modification.

How about "Familyguy"?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

Now that I re-read your post, it sounds interesting but I've never thought about it.

I have however thought about switching the overhead mini console (comes with the moonroof like I have) for a 2001 that includes Home Link. I have no idea though, whether the Home Link unit is in the console or mounted somewhere else.

Ride:
The HomeLink buttons on the 2001 EBs are in the drivers side sun visor.
You can add the homelink without even having to swap the console, just the sunvisor and a little wiring work.

Put the Jacobs' system on my 2000 XLT. Works great for me. It's a microwave system as opposed to infrared so dirt, rain, etc. doesn't affect it. How much is the Ford system and which type is it? Bought mine for $250.

    Thanks for the reply.

Where did you get your system and how much did it cost? Does Jacobs' have a web site?

I estimate the Ford system would cost around $250 in parts then you would have to figure out how to install the system.

I got my Jacobs' from CBS Performance -free shipping. Both CBS and Jacobs have websites.
    www.cbsperformance.com
    www.jacobselectronics.com
    Cost was $250
    Not too hard to install.

    Good Luck
