Post Lowering 4WD Navigator

I'm not looking to make this thing into a lowrider, but would like to fill the wheel wells better. I have turned down the torsion bars and have adjusted the shock sensors, trimmed the bumpstops, but still need to get another inch in the front.

My question is, how far down can I turn the torsion bar adjusting bolt. I have about a half inch gap between the threads and the nut. Can I crank it all the way down? Also someone had mentioned that a Jeep Torsion key will fit the Navigator/Expeditions but I don't know what model. I heard this will get you even lower. Anybody heard of this or have any other ideas? Once I'm done, I'm setting up an appointment at the alignment shop and having the camber kit installed and aligned. Thanks for any help.

NO.
dont lower your gator.
if anything put airride on it.
but if you want to fill the gaps either get bigger tires or put some 22's on it.

2000SilverNav,

Is it possible to put an full airride suspension on 4wd Navigator or Expedition? I have been told everywhere that it can't be done though someone told me that it could, but it would cost waaay too much? If you know of anyone that can do it, possibly in California or have any numbers can you please pass them along? Thanks.

My cousin,in LA, works with shaquile oneal's agent and she said that he has an airride suspension on his yukon.
they are about the same size as an expedition.
i went to check on my blackwood again today and now it wont be ready till the 1st of june. i am pissed.

anyways i got a book while i was there, on navigators.
in the back it says

"2wd---rear load leveling system...
4wd---height adjustable and 4 corner load leveling system (air suspension)"

I just got my issue of Truckin' and they have a layout on the new Lincoln Blackwood. Looks pretty cool, but %50K? That seems a little too steep. Slap on some 20"s and lower it a few inches and it would looker even better.

I actually saw Shaq's Yukon being worked on. There is a place called West Coast Customs that Shaq uses to fix up his cars. The Yukon was a 4wd but they had to completely gut out the entire 4wd system to get it as low as Shaq wanted. It looks pretty tight though. On the front grille is Shaq's Superman symbol and well as on the seats stitched. I don't want my 4wd Expedition that low though and I don't want to have to lose the 4wd function. I only need about 2 or 3 more inches lower. I would like to put it all around on bags, but like I said, I don't know if it can be done for a reasonable price. I have already adjusted the torsion bar and the air bag sensor. However, this only got me about an inch to an inch and a half. Any other info would be great though. Thanks.

I was able to get mine a little lower. In the rear it measures 32" from ground to wheel well lip and in the front it measures 33" from ground to wheel well lip. I have contacted a company in Mission Viejo and they make a modified crossmember for the torsion bars which allows greater adjustment and full use of the air shock up front. The name of the company is Ballistic Motorsports (949)472-3834. The person I talked to is Pat. Let me know what you find out.

How much did you adjust your torsion bar up front? Mine is almost all the way down and I trimmed about an inch off the bump stop. I currently have the adjuster for the air shock strapped to the upper A arm and I am in the process of making a bracket that will make it adjustable. The rear sensor is lowered all the way down. Good luck and let me know what succes you have had and what your Expedition measures.

Navi Man,

Do you have any pics of you Navigator so that I can take a look at the height? I didn't trim anything off the bump stop. It was basically lowered enough so that the frame almost rests on it. The rear adjustable sensor is also as low as it will go. Keep me updated on that bracket also.

When you measured the distance from the ground to the wheel lip, was you Navi is the "lowered stance" meaning that it was turned off and the Navi had dropped down to parked height? I will try to measure my height later today. You can also take a look at the height of my Expedition on the website below.

Gee, why didn't I think of that, duh. If you can find me a good used 2wd Navigator in the Northwest then I will consider it then. They are next to impossible to find. As for ground clearance, I will have plenty. If you would have read my first thread you would have realized that their is a big difference between lowering a vehicle and slamming a vehicle. If you're not going to be able to add anything positive to a post, please refrain from posting.

Thank you

Here is a before and after picture of my Navigator. The quality of the pictures isn't very good. Hopefully I'll get a new digital camera and I will be able to add some more pictures.

Thanks Family Ride. I haven't done to many modifications yet, but plan on doing some soon. You definitely have a nice Expedition and looks like you've put a fair chunk of change into it. These things can really eat you up.

Modifications Done:
Super White Headlights
17x9 Ultra Claw Wheels
Toyo Proxes ST 285x60x17 Tires
Lowered 3" all around
Tinted Windows

Here is a list of additions I have planned:

Monochrome the bumpers and running boards
Kenwood Deck w CD Changer
KEF Speakers
McIntosh and Rockford Amplification
JL Audio Stealthbox
Gibson Cat Back Exhaust
Helwig Sway Bar

Navi Man,

Sorry about not being able to get those measurements. I have just been absolutely busy! I see you were able to lower your Nav 3"? That seems like a lot by just turning the torsion bars and adjusting the sensors. I imagine that at most I got about 2", probably more like an inch and a half. However, from your picture, your Nav doesn't look that much lower than my Expedition. I'll be able to compare when I take the measurements.

My main reason for lowering it, is because I would like to fill up the wheel wells and also because of the improved handling. However, I may just get larger diameter rims (currently 18", possibly 20" or 22") with slightly wider tires that I have now (currently 285/60, possible 305/50). This would increase the handling a little as well as fill in the wheel wells. However, there may be some rubbing from the tires and the wells. We'll see...

Robert
