Is this the same?

Angry Is this the same?

I was wondering if this is the sam? The results of the most recent crash test on the F150 were released today. Out of seven trucks tested, the F150 came in last. It staed that the protective structure of the vehicle is virtually non-existent during a crash.I know the F150 and the Expedtion share the same chassis and much of the design and parts are common to one another.Does this mean that the Expedition would perform equally as poor under the same test?

I would expect the Expy to do better but not by much.

The aspect of the test that is not so "real world" (offset collisions due to crash avoidance is a pretty realistic scenario IMHO) is that the vehicles are crashed into a stationary target. In the real world that target is much more likely another moving car and usually the laws of physics will be in your favor (to the extent that they can be) given the Expy's mass. (Consider a rear end collision, e.g.) All of the momentum of the collision will not be absorbed by the Expy as in the test you saw. The caveat is the other vehicle will potentially have have non-zero momentum of it's own, so until you see tests covering such scenarios it's anybody's guess. In the meantime drive safely and remember there are little guys out there!

Oh yeah, check out the junkyards

El Wrongo. The Expedition just in the last few months one a 5 star rating.

I can't remember who did the testing or how close in comparison those test are but I'd rather be in my Expy that most cars in a collision. Of course I also have a Volvo and have had a bunch of Mercedes over recent years so I'm used to feeling pretty safe.

FR, did you see the test in question? That the F series scored so well in head on collisions but so poorly in offset is one of the "puzzling" points. The Expy was not part of this test but given the types of structural failures I saw, I can't believe it would be too much prettier in an Expy. Do you recall the specific test you're referring to?

Frozen,

You may have something there. Here's a link to Ford press on the Government test rating.
http://www.fordvehicles.com/news/ind...?tpt=1&aid=106
I din't have time to read the whole thing but in the first paragragh it does say "...The Ford Expedition has earned a double five-star rating in U.S. government frontal crash testing..."

Ok, so as long as you cream someone head on, you're safe! (ok, that was a stupid thing to say)

The test which I am referring to is the offset crash, The Toyota Tundra came in first. In other words, the driver survived with minor injuries. Unlike the Ford whose driver probably won't survive the crash. The technology it takes to design a vehicle in which the driver could walk away is nothing new and is well known in the industry. But apparently Ford's interest lies elsewhere.
