Post Rearview mirrors

Does Ford offer motorized rearview mirrors, allowing the mirrors to be brought in in "tight spots"?

Ran into a little problem last week in town and knocked the passenger rearview mirror. Thought I could get though. Doooh!

Ouch! I haven't seen anyone offer motorized. However, they do fold up.

My question started mostly because of my own lack of perception, but also, ironically, I was reading the write-up on the new Cadillac Escalade and it has the motorized fold in mirrors as a standard feature.

Thumbs up

Crap. First 345 HP now this. Damn GM.

I hope Ford gets that 24v 5.4 out soon. I can't wait to see what it does with a few mods.

The new 2001 and 2002 Navigators have been reported to have the powered fold in mirrors on them.
You could do a mirror swap, but there is no telling what you are up against in the wiring and relay department to accomplish it.

Motorized mirrors is a great idea however, if I'm not mistaken the widest part of a expy is the running boards. At least that is how Ford measures the width. Soooo if you hit your mirror backing out there is a good chance you also scraped the running board. Hey Caddys need the bells and whistles because the basics are poor. I like the power they have, but have you seen the dash, especially the center console area? That part on all the GM suvs looks like a afterthought.

On my 2001 X-EB, the mirrors stick out about 1.5" on the left and right further than the running boards.
(used a plumb and tape measure).
If you fold them in though, the boards stick out about 1.25" wider than the mirrors.

That's really interesting. I remember reading in the Ford literature that they measured the width from the boards. So I guess the question is what would you rather damage? Personally I use the mirrors as my guide in tight spots. If I'm to close to a $300 mirror do I want to get even closer to paint and metal damage?

What prompted me to measure was that with my 01 X-EB, the garage seemed a little narrower than I was used to and I know the garage did not change dimensions...
After bumping the RH mirror a couple of times (I always back the rig in, and snug up to the wall) I got to looking and measuring.
The part that threw me off in distance jundgement was the additional width of the mirror housing that you CANNOT see that contains the little turn signals....
Luckily I have not scratched the mirror housings yet.
I actually ended up mounting a small, round blind spot mirror on the wall of the garage so I could see the turn signal on the mirror.
Yes, I know it sounds like a tight fit, and it is.
If I don't line the X up right when backing it in, I will take out the passenger side of the truck on all of the gardening tools, ladders and vaccuum accessories that are strategically hung on that wall.
My wife refuses to pull the X in or out of the garage. She says if its gonna get screwed up, that I am the one that will screw up my "precious baby"...
