Anyone need a good laugh ???
I've had a bad weekend. Had planned on changing my oil for the first time. I bought my Exp in Feb and it's just rolling over 50K. I decided to go with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Woke up Saturday morning with plumbing problems!! Spent most of the day getting that worked out and was finally ready for my oil change. I climb under, and unscrew the first plug I see. Yep, Transmission fluid. All of the ATF had drained out of the pan before I realized what I had done. That's why I was wondering exactly how many quarts the pan held so I would now how many to add back. Well I sent my wife to town to buy me some ATF while I finally changed my oil. Well, the fluid she returned with said it was MERCON V!!! I put 4 quarts in and figured I would wait until I drove it alittle so that I could get a better reading. I didn't drive it but about 10 miles...So, WHAT SHOULD I DO???? I have 4 quarts of mercon V mixed in with my mercon. Is this enough to hurt? Should I drain All of the fluid out and replace it with mercon?? Should I have it flushed?? How much does this cost? Thanks for all responses. I felt a bit embarressed to even admit to yall what I did, but I just want things to be alright.....Sorry for the long post and please let me know what you think!!!

Ouch. Yes, Mercon and Mercon V are not compatable in an application like the 4r100 that requires Mercon. However, I did just read the at the factory, because of ATF supplys, the 4r100 sometimes get Mercon V. However again, they say that although that's acceptable, servicing requires the use of Mercon.
Check the Transmission forum. I know recently I've see the capacity numbers of the pan and TC seperatly. Seems like it's around 6-8 qt's in the pan.
Look on the bright side, it's an opportunity to go to Mobil 1 ATF.
I've heard there's an amazing difference in the tranny behavior once you've got a few miles on it and go with synth.
Either way, good luck but it's not that bad.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm telling my wife!!!!! She's never going to let me live this down. I felt so STUPID once I realized what I had done(draining the fluid)and then just felt terrible after realizing that I had added MERCON V rather that MERCON. You have any idea what the Mobil 1 goes for a quart?? Any idea what cost for a flush??? Thanks for responses. I guess I'll try my luck on the transmission forum too...
You think I would be taking risk of damaging my trans by continuing to run it with the 4 quarts of mercon V??

I've seen it posted where a flush ran in the $150 range I believe. Not sure if that was with Mobil 1 but I bought a couple quarts recently (to flush and replace the power stering fluid, much quieter now) and I think it was about $4.50 at AutoZone. Don't quote me on the flush though.

At 50K I'd have it flushed out. 0.02 worth.
