Bilstein Shocks
I know that some of you have tried the Edelbrock IAS shocks.
Did or have you considered Bilstein shocks? They come factory on jaguar, mrecedes etc.
Has anyone heard anything good or bad on this brand?
Any opinions?
Who has a better design Edelbrock or Bilstein???????????
Thanks

I was stuck between the 2. I've had over a dozen new Mercedes in the last 12-14 years and I'll tell oyu, they can take a rough road.
Both are great. If Edelbrock doesn't make one for your application, they'll recommend Bilstein. They used Bilstein as a great alternative for theres when I talked to them.
I've heard feedback that the Bilsteins are a tiny little bit more harsh. I just installed Edlebrocks and they actually are a little smoother than OEM but have great recovery.
You can't go wrong with either.
If I spend more time in rough conditions, like off raod, I might lean towards Bilstein. An dealer that sells both said the Edlebrocks tend to deteriorate quicker under very (that's VERY) rough conditions.

Don't know about the Edelbrocks but I have installed the Bilsteins on my Expedition. It is the best thing I have done to my Expedition, handles much better and the wife doesn't think they are harsh. Next best thing I did was get rid of the crappy Goodyear RTS tires.

FamilyRide -- what were the part numbers for your rear shocks? I noticed you have rear LLS and Edelbrock doesn't make an application for that. I remember some of your old posts so you don't have to regurgitate all that but, if you would, provide the part numbers. Thanks. I am considering eith Edelbrock or Bilstein.

Weird story. First, Bilstein makes them specificly for the 2WD with rear LLS.
Edelbrock will only put in writing that they specificly exclude 4 corner LLS. Every application guide they have, and dealer I talked to show part numbers for them but never exclude the rear only LLS. The description is "Performer IAS® Rear Shock Without 4wheel Air Ride Suspension" So, I took the plunge and ordered just that. Rear shocks for a '00 Expy without 4 corner LLS.
I'm not sure about the 4x4. Ford told me the shocks for the 2WD rear LLS were the same as for the 4x4, but that's OEM and I would dig into that more.
The ones I installed are 3322 for the front and 3422 for the rear.
Since you have a 4x4, if you do any heavy duty driving off road or towing, you may want to go with Bilstien. Edelbrock even recommended them as a great alternative to theirs. A dealer told me that the Edelbrocks tend to deteriorate more quickly under extreme conditions. If you're like me a use it as a commuter, hands down Edelbrock. Just sounds like the Edelbrocks don't handle continous extreme driving as well.

Thanks for the reply FamilyRide. Your shock crusade is well documented. I do not do any off-roading and use the truck for commuting and towing the boat. I do not see why the rear shocks are different for the 2WD w/rear LLS vs the 4WD w/4 corner LLS. Certainly, I can understand the fronts being different. Sounds like you have been satisfied with your purchase

dbunch5,
Yes, very much. Odd thing, the rear end corrects much better than the front. Of course the front has just a little more weight.
