Enzo-

My '97 had 5 X 7's in all the doors, they may have switched after that year, but my OEM were 5 X 7 (I still have them). My head unit has an external amp behind it. The head unit does not have RCA pre-outs tho'. You just have to purchase a Expedition/Ford amp wiring kit ($50.00) no big deal. Plug it in your head unit and plug your new amp to it and your cookin' with Crisco. (I think, hell it was a long time ago and I've slept since then)

As far as the 6 X 8's go I dunno, pull your door panel off and look at your speakers, if they are 6 X 8 then I would replace with 6 X 8 or components. When I pulled my door skin off I had 5 X 7 so it just seemed obvious at the time to replace with 5 X 7's.

Food for thought: Listen to all the speakers you think you may like and choose the one that sounds best to your ears. You are the one that has to live with them.

Let us know.

BluOvalOk,
Are you saying that the stock head-unit has 4 RCA outputs that plugged into your new Alpine amp? If so, this is great news! I want to do the exact same changes you performed (amp, speakers & subwoofer), but I want to retain the stock head-unit and CD changer. I'm tired of advertising that I have a nice stereo for others to take.

If the stock unit does not have RCA's. How did you attach the new amp?

Also, you upgraded your doors with 5X7's. My stereo dealer told me that they are 6X8's. My X is a 98, so maybe they switched sizes that year??? Anyhoot, I look forward to reading your response.

James

Question

Does anyone know how to pull the skins of the doors off to get to the speakers?
