Post Screech when turning

Just recently, I noticed that when I am driving and making left turns there is a semi-loud screech/squeaking sound coming from the front driver's side. However, when turning right there is no screech/squeak at all. Do any of you know what the problem could be? Maybe something needs to be greased? It is really annoying and more importantly if something is wrong I don't want to wait to long to get it fixed. Thanks in advance.

Robert

You didn't say what year you have. Anyhow on our '97 it had a similair squeak and I've heard others too. The problem is with the steering unit. I believe our dealer just greased it.

My Expedition is a 1998. I am going to take it in tomorrow to have it looked at. Someone told me it may be the tie end rods that need grease injected into them. Hopefully whatever it is won't cost too much!

MHMCGILL: Do you recall which part of the steering unit had to be greased? I don't think it is the steering unit because the squeak comes from somewhere in the wheel area. I will post tomorrow what the mechanic told me.

99.9 percent of the time it is the pitman arm. Injecting grease can help.

Went to the mechanic over the weekend and was told the squeak/screech is because of the ball joints. They need to be replaced. I don't know too much about mechanics so what exactly are the ball joints? He also said they are fairly expensive. I am probably going to wait a little longer to get the problem fixed. Thanks for all the help.
