Post Low Fuel Light - How Much Left?

I apologize if this has been brought up before, yet I was wondering if anyone has experience with the amount of fuel remaining when the low fuel light comes on. I have a 1998 Exedition, with the 30 gallon tank, and the light seems to come on with about 2-3 gallons left in the tank. Is this what others are seeing? I would guess I could get about 30-40 more miles after the light comes on?

Thank you,

Bernie

I have a simular problem with my 98 Expy. My low fuel light comes on at about an 1/8 tank with about 7 gallons left in the tank. If I run the tank past "E" I can only put in about 27 gallons.

I have about 5 gals left when the light comes on. My "miles left to go" gauge (display) says 0 miles till empty when my low fuel light comes on. still leaving me with a comfortable 5 gals left.

Cool

This may seem kind of obvious, but why not fill up when the light comes on and see? All trucks are probably slightly different.
36Racin says his comes on w/3 gallons left. My F150 low fuel light comes on with 4 gallons left.

My test is in.

I have three times in a row run my tank down until the Low Fuel Light comes on. Also My Trip Computers say around “26 Miles till empty” I normally filled up within 4 miles of the Light. I also tried to be consistent with the pump filling up. (First pump stop)

Results.
1) Fill was 26.1 gals
2) Fill was 26.0 gals
3) Fill was 26.1 gals

This is with the standard 30 gal tank.

That tells me that I have almost exactly 4 gals left when that light comes on.

Curious that it is so exact.. 4 gals..

I'll throw in another one.

I've run mine past the light, maybe 20-30 miles. It'll usually say 20-30 miles til empty as well. I've been able to squeeze in 32 gallons. I think the 30 gallon tank on most of these are very picky about filling. To get 32 gallons takes patience, a lot of it.

I wondered the same thing when the light first went on. Finally one day the light came on just when I was pulling into the gas station. At that day it took a hair less than 28 gals to fill my 30 gal tank. To conclude, my light comes on with @ 2 gals remaining.

I had this experience 2 month ago. My F150's light came on, and putting it off a day or so, I "thought" would be OK. Day or so later still lo on fuel, I backed my truck out of my drive into the street, parked pointing uphill. Went out a few hours later -- truck would not start(immediatly thought "oh great my "rough idle" has evolved into this -- goodie maybe they can fix it now" -- WRONG!!. Called dealer he asked if I was out of gas-- Said No
I had a little-- he asked if I was parked level-- No I said on a slope. He suggested -- park it flat. Did and it immediately started -Hustled to the nearest station. Seems I had less than 2 gals left. Moral - if your low fuel lite is on DON'T PARK POINTING UPHILL!

I have run out of gas twice. As soon as the light comes I reset the Trip Meter. The first time was at 72 miles and the second time was at 67 miles.

Just visiting from the Lightning Board...

That means, if you have four gallons of fuel left with a "miles to empty" of 26... You get just a hair over six miles per gallon. Is that right?
