Unhappy Compass

folks,

I really need some help here. My electric compass in my 97 expedition is flaking out on me. The dealer wants my arms and legs to fix it. Can anyone here tell me or email on how to fix or recalibrate the compass.

Thank you in advance

Chances are it's gone to the great compass in heaven. My 99 had the compass go at about 7 or 8k miles. When I tried recalibrating it it would read right during calibration but would read backwards after it was done. They changed the module behind your center rear view mirror. It clips on to the mirror stem and plugs in with what looks like a telephone connector. It would be easy to do yourself. Would take about 60 seconds at most.

Calibration instructions are in manual. I still have the bad module from mine sitting on my desk. The two halves of the plastic cover pop apart to reveal a circuit card with components you cant really tell what they are. I looked for bad solder connections but couldn't find any.

There has been a number of people who had this problem. You're not alone--Bob

The vehicle above is one of many. Try refreshing. It goes by random but the Expy was exactly like mine. Now it's a
2000 EB Expedition 5.4L, Estate Green with all the perks,3.55 LS,Heated and Signal Mirrors and Seats Moon Roof. Auto adjusting peddles, seats, and mirrors. Rhino Step Bar (coming), Ford Bug Shield,Even the hitch propeller, More to come... My 99 Expy was destroyed in a Wisconsin Tornado (No B.S.) Allstate did good by me but I still took a hit on mileage.

Do it your self. NO TOOLS NEEDED.

Just snap it off the rearview mirror take out the phone plug type of wire and do reverse for installation. 90 Seconds tops. Then calibrate using instructions in your manual.

Please---save your money--Bob
