Question What is the curb weight of you expy??

Greetings, I have seen a lot of varying figures on the curb weight of the X. For instance, consumer reports sez it weighs about the same as an F150 SC 4x4 5.4--about 5200lbs. I dont belive that.

Could anyone that has an expy with 4x4 and 5.4L please look on your door sticker and report back???

Also if you have an F150 SC 4x4 could you please do the same?? I have seen curb weights for the same truck reported from 4200lbs to 5200 lbs.

Thanks, karl

Hello karl from idaho,
Just to let you know my Nav's GVW is 7200 lbs. That's why we need all that extra HP .. just to keep up with you guys.

That’s almost 4 U.S. tons.

Question

LaserNav, your Nav should weigh about 5700 lbs (according to consumer digest). That rating you reported is (I think) the towing capacity.

but that Land Barge made mincemeat out of that Toy Tundra, didnt it?? ;-)

Aside from that, if the X does weigh about the same as an F150, even within a few hundred pounds, it is really interesting how the two differ in handling and performance. The expy to me feels laborious to get moving, as I mentioned before, but stable. I guess it is just how it is distributed.

Im prety sure.

This is the number that is on the door that say.

GVW 7200 lbs.
Then it says what the front GVW is and then the rear GVW. These numbers are located on the drivewr door (inside) with the VIN, tire size, color code,.... (silver lable)

The towing capacity is 8,XXX somthing

Let me know if I am looking at it wrong.

LaserNav,

The GVW or GVWR is the Gross Vehicle Weight or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating which is what the vehicle is rated for it's weight as well as passenger/cargo. In other words, loaded with as many people and as much stuff as it's rated for, it would weight 7200lbs.

That 5700 lb number looks about right I would think. My xx2 2000 Expy weights about 5200 lbs.

So, does that mean with the few mods I've done (plus exhaust when it gets here) considering the wieght I might me able to take you? Well, maybe just keep up! ;-)

I guess the Nav weighs in a bit more than the ex due to extra sound damping material all around in the body shell, and maybe a few extra gizmos to toast off toyota tundras that happen to take you on!

seriously, looks like the nav weighs about 500 lbs more than the expy.

As was said above....he's talking gross vehicle weight. You seem to be looking for curb weight. Two different things. Both the Expy and Nav are about the same. Just a full tank of gas can make around a 200lb difference. There around 5600-5700 lbs.

I believe my Expy weighs 5640 lbs.

I just went outside and looked. GVW is 7628lbs for a 4x4 2000 Expy.

Interesting,
How do you figure what your curb weight is? Take it to a scale or is there a calculation.
I am glad that my NAV does not weight almost 4 tons. That sounds like a bunch.

ExpyBob
That amazing that your Xpy’s GVW is 7628 lbs.

FamilyRide
Would be an interesting race. I am switching to the AIRFORCEONE FIPK since it will give me additional “5HP” over the K&N. (Christmas).. Then as JBA finishes developing header in February. Well .. I should be over the 400 hp mark. I was currently “estimated” at “382 hp” . (This is with a few more HP tricks I don’t post).

O coarse then NAV is not really a racing machine.. Bring em on..

The 400 hp mark has always been my goal but if it seems inadequate theirs always more I can do. I have heard of some NAV owners getting as much as “500hp” out of there 32V (expensive mods) I think This is all my mods PLUS a supercharger and intercooler and maybe Nitro.

Keep in mind, Lasernav, that's the Gross Vehicle Weight. Fully loaded with people and/or gear.

But I did go out and look.

3500 Front GVW and 4128 Back GVW.

7628 Total. I just went out and looked again. I wanted to make sure I didn't do the math wrong.

Question

Pretty weird.

My total number on the sticker is 7200 lbs GVW

My front GVW is 3520 displayed on the sticker
My rear GVW is 4128 displayed on the sticker

Added together is 7648 GVW

Just 20 more pounds that yours.

Why do they display two numbers? Can they not add?

The 2 numbers are the weight the vehicle can handle over each axle, again vehicle and payload weight.

I think the biggest difference in the Expy and Nav is the Nacv is heavier thus reduces the payload by about 500 lbs. I think the Expy still has the highest payload in the full size SUV market (the Excursion may have taken that honor now) of 2000lbs.

I may have to try to find a stock 32v that's feel'n frisky. I'm suprised at how my Expy runs now so I think a stock 32v might be possible. I'm not sure I'm actually ready to take you on and pop my balloon; I can just keep it out there as the proverbial carrot. ;-)

Things as I understand them (over-simplified):

GVWR=Gross Vehicle Weight Rating:
Maximum weight of the vehicle including payload. You have to weigh your X (curb-weight) to find out how much you can haul. "Hauling" includes passengers, fuel, and payload (stuff).

GAWR=Gross AXLE Weight Rating:
Maximum weight that the given axle is rated to support. Front GAWR + Rear GAWR DOES NOT = GVWR!!

GCWR=Gross Combined Weight Rating:
Maximum rated weight of the vehicle (including payload) + a towed object (and it's payload). NOTE: Trailers (travel, boat, etc) also have a GVWR as well as GAWR that should not be exceeded.

Curb-weight (dry)=GREY area:
Usually the weight of the vehicle including all options and accessories but not including fuel, passengers, or "stuff".

Curb-weight (wet)=GREY area:
Usually the weight of the vehicle including all options, accessories, full tank of gas, all passengers and all the "stuff". Basically, it's how much it weighs normally with everyone and everything in it.

When towing or hauling, it is important to not exceed any one of the weight ratings. So, that means the "advertised" 8000# tow capacity is out of the question. You'll exceed the GCWR &/or GAWR long before you hitch up a trailer that big.

Over 6000 GVW vehicles have some tax benefits regarding depreciation methods. Unless the tax code changed very recently, you can take normal MAPS depreciation on a vehicle listed at over 6000 GVW and not be subject to "luxury car" depreciation limitations. Talk to your tax accountant or CPA.
