Help with my new Expedition please!
I just bought a 1999 Eddie Bauer Expy for my wife. We love it and it goes well with my 1997 F150. But the dealer where we got it used couldn't answer some of our questions. First of all, it has the number pads under the drivers handle.
1. The combo isn't known. How do I reset and change the door lock combo?
2. There are little slots (4 or 5) cut into the dash below the ac controls. The slots make up an area about the size of a large postage stamp. What are they? The same slots are cut into the dash on the very top in the middle.
3. Next to those slots in the top middle portion of the dash, there is also a little round hole with a button or something flush with the dash. What in the world is that?
4. When I press the remote lock button twice, the horn beeps and the lights flash to confirm it's locked and the alarm is armed. Is there a way to make this silent and just flash the lights?
5. Is it possible to arm the alarm without the keyless remote. I really don't like those bulky things and would rather just use my key.
The truck came with a thin user manual from Ford, but none of these things are addressed in it. Does anyone know of a good source of information on these trucks, like an aftermarket manual. Considering these things weren't in the manual I got, I think I might be missing out on some other features too.
Thanks a bunch!!

There is a module under your dash that has the number on it. The dealer should help you find it. It's on the drivers side. It has a white sticker on it with the nubers. You might have to unfasten it to see the side with the sticker. Someone also told me if you look way in the jack compartment there's a sticker in there. Don't know about that since I never looked. Then punch those numbers in then "1" then your own code. Voila its done. New code will last until the battery is disconnected. The original code will always work car. If you push "4" after the numbers all door will unlock. Otherwise only the drivers will.
The slots are for air sensor for the auto AC. There is also another lens on top for the auto headlights. Thats the round button.
Pressing the remote lock twice only toots the horn once if all is shut. If something is open it will toot twice. Its only if you want to know that should you press twice.
This is not necessarily an alarm. They all do this. The anti theft device is in the key. Thats to prevent entire truck from being stolen. A theft alarm for break-ins is optional. It doesn't come with one.
The real manual is thick. that sounds like the supplemental one.
The doors should auto-lock by themselves. If not you can turn that feature on. There is info on this sight for doing that. Use search feature.
I owned a 99 before the 2000. I also had a 97. See signature below for story---Bob
PS I hope its not the burgandy red color. That was the color of mine and I kept the manual when it was totaled????? Naaaa!

The vehicle above is one of many. Try refreshing. It goes by random but the Expy was exactly like mine. Now it's a
2000 EB Expedition 5.4L, Estate Green with all the perks,3.55 LS,Heated and Signal Mirrors and Seats Moon Roof. Auto adjusting peddles, seats, and mirrors. Rhino Step Bar (coming), Ford Bug Shield,Even the hitch propeller, More to come... My 99 Expy was destroyed in a Wisconsin Tornado (No B.S.) Allstate did good by me but I still took a hit on mileage.

To add to the above:
Pushing the remote lock only once will also lock the doors. Pushing it twice is only to give you audio/visual conformation. You can just lock the door manually and shut it....the alarm is then armed. You will see a red light blinking on the dash for confirmation. If a door is ajar, your interior lights should remain lit to let you know.
For the manual, go to the official Ford web site, sign up to the owners connection, and you will have access to an online manual.

I also own a '99 Expy with remote entry. In order to reset the pad, you must know the default factory code. You will find the code under the dash above the brake pedal. It is a white label with I believe 5 digits. From there you can follow your owners manual instructions to program your own code. If for some reason you don't have that info, I can email you the pages from my manual, you can contact me x.treme.ride@foxracing.every1.net if you need more info. This is how I figured out my locks! The other question about changing the way you computer responds when you activate the keyless entry is also in your manual.
Good Luck
Good Luck
Thanks everyone.
I downloaded the manual from Fords web site. It's definitely different, and more complete, than the manual I have.

Congrats on your purchase!
RE #3: Reminder- If you cover this "button" with anything (papers, dash mat, etc.) your headlights, dashlights, and taillights will come on and stay on.
RE #4: As Expy Bob said, there are no factory-installed alarms. IF you have an alarm, it was installed after the vehicle was delivered to the original dealer. The "PANIC" button isn't an alarm per se- see owners manual. Unlike GM, Ford does not allow you to set a "silent" mode. The horn always honks.
RE #5: See #4... you may not really have an alarm. The factory key fob only lock/unlocks the doors. It is a pure luxury item- uneccessary for operation of the vehicle. On a related note, you may want to consider purchasing an extra key. They are kind of expensive because of the built-in PATS computer chip, but it costs less to buy a "third" one than to replace a "lost" one.
Happy SUV-ing!
