Unhappy Pipe diameter on 2K Ex?

Are you sure that the 2K Expy has 2.75" pipes? My Midas shop said I had 2.5" and installed a 2.5" flowmaster.
Will that hurt my performance??

My muffler shop said mine were 2.5" also. I had a Flowmaster catalog and I couldn't find a 2 3/4" pipes for Ford trucks. Unless they ment outside diameter. Go figure.

Per my Ford Dealership (Bob Davidson Ford in Baltimore, MD where I purchased the vehicle), they stated there are 2K Expy with 2&1/2" AND 2&3/4" pipes. Maybe they are full of hot air?? SOOOO, I called Flowmaster directly. They said the books for the 2K Expys aren't even out. If they are the same as the 97-99 Expys, then they are 2&1/2". I asked him am I okay buying the 3" diameter 70 series. he said sure, the muffler shop with just flange both ends of the muffler to fit anything smaller than 3" with no impact to the muffler's performance or exhaust intergrity.

Based upon that information, I ordered a Flowmaster 70 Series that was 3" in diameter.

If you guys were reading my prior posts, I apologize if this caused anyone any confusion. Evidently our 2K vehicles are too new for any type of documentation.

I'll be sure to post the results of my muffler install.

Thumbs up

Okay, I bent down and stuck my head under the running boards. Just like the Midas manager said, the flange of the flowmaster fit snuggly over the factory pipes. So the matter is settled. Expy's have 2.5" pipes.

I just spoke with the Midas shop and they swear that I have 2.5" pipes. I want to stop by the shop later lift the vehicle to see for myself.

badcar-
Thanx for the effort and clarification. So, my dealership is full of ****, or at least the guy I talked to is full of it. Again, sorry for any confusion.
Since I order my Flowmaster 70 Series 3" muffler via mail order (to arrive on Saturday), I guess I'll have to justify things by installing a 3" tailipe! :-)

I got curious and check my pipe diameter too. yup it's 2.5" too. Go with the 3" tailpipe. It will look great.

I have a 3" and a stainless steel tip. Looks great and sound good. Except for a slight drown about 80mph or 2200rpm. I'll have to live with it. Love the sound performance of all three changes. Intake-Superchip-Exhaust.
Let us now how it goes.

Thanx for the words of encouragement! I know this is a bit off-thread; but, how was it installing the Airaid system onto your truck? Mine is due to arrive any day now.

It's not bad at all. One hose you might have to cut to length. Take your time, and read the instuctions first. The only thing I did different is put on some polished stainless steel hardware on the mass air meter. You must take the mass air meter out of the stock housing, and expose it. Looks good under the hood.

Good luck
