Post height off ground

I have a 99 xlt with 30 gallon gas tank. I only have 8" clearance beneath the tank to ground. Besides going to a 17" tire -- any recommendations? I'd like to get it off the ground another couple of inches. I don't want to sacrifice handling.

Your tires are smaller than 17"??

I'm not sure about where the tank mounts. If it's to the body, then you could try a body lift. Otherwise, it's bigger tires or a suspension lift- or ALL of the above. There is a larger selection of tires for 16" rims than 17" ones. Keep your 16" rims and just get bigger tires and better anti-sway bars. Just remember, to get 2" of 'lift' from tires, they have to be 4" larger in diameter. Probably 35"- which definitely requires some kind of lift kit.

Yeah, Bigger tires and a sway bar would do the trick. Also remember to watch your speedo reading. It will change with your larger tires. The dealer will correct this pretty close.
