Towing with Expy
What's the best package to get if you are going to tow a couple of horses around? I was thinking of getting the Eddie Bauer with a tow package. Are the 17" wheels good for towing or should I go for the 16"?

I have a 99 X EB with the towing pkg and 17" wheels. My also had the 3.55 ratio rear. I tow a 7k trailer. It drove good but no power to pull hills in fact it spent most of it's time in 2nd grar. If you refer to fords numbers you loose 500 lbs due to the 17 being 2" bigger. I now have 4.10 and a super charger. It does fine. I would go with the 3.73. If you can not get that ratio and end up with the 3.55 you will have to get shorter tires or 16" I also think ford reduced the towing numbers for 2000. I need more info let me know

Eddie Bauer vs XLT is a matter of personal preference. The only difference is the amount of "fluff" that each comes with.
You'll want the 5.4L and 3.55 gears. I don't think you can get the 3.73 diff anymore. You can tow a little more with 16" rims than 17" rims. Plus, there is a much better selection of tires for 16" wheels.
Either way, you shouldn't have any problems. I tow a 3000 lb boat with my 4.6L X, and have no problems. Although, I am about to swap out the 3.55 gears for some 4.10s, but it's because of the 33" tires.
