5.4l Engine Swap

I am new here and did a brief search and could not find an answer to my question.

My 1999 Expedition's Triton 5.4l is seized up and I need to do an engine swap. I was wondering, what it would take to swap in a newer 3 valve 5.4l into this vehicle? I now it is a way different engine, but with the choices between an 8-10 year old motor with 75,000+ miles, a rebuilt long block, or a nearly new engine with less than 1,000 miles on it I am at least interested in the possibility. Any info would be great.

I would just say get a rebuilt one and stick it in there. That will get you a little warranty as well. You will most likely have to shange harness and PCM if you go with a used motor.

Now, if you are looking to mod it, there are many different configurations to take into account. I am just speaking on workability and ease of change. You already have everything for the reman, and, you KNOW that it will work.

What are your main uses for the truck?

I use the truck for towing a travel trailer and general family transportation / trips.

If I go for a rebuilt long block, who would you recommend as a vendor?

Yea, I would just say get a reman. Might as well start with ZERO miles on it.

I have heard of people using the FORD reman. Here are 2 links to check for pricing. The first one will give you a very good idea of what it will cost at the dealership.

www.varsityfordparts.com

www.rockauto.com

I have usead NAPA too, but, not with this paticular motor. I know when my 4.6 kroaks I am going to jam a 418 stroker in there. LOL

I'm sure if you call them up, and, give them your VIN # they will be more than happy to help. The VIN will finalise the exact fit. I don't know the difference in them. I just gave you somewhere to get a guestimate price.
