Stumble at idle in gear?

Well, now that the truck is out of warranty...

I don't know if this is the famed idle problem or not.
But my 05 just started a stumble at idle. But only when it's in gear and the you have your foot on the brake...like at a stop light or stop sign. It does not do it in Park.

Otherwise, it starts good, drives good, no CEL.

Has anyone seen this before?

It's the weirdest thing. My wife called me Thursday night and said she thought her Expy was going to die every time she stopped. I drove it and it does that same thing. About 2 sec after being stopped at a light with it in Drive the engine will stumble.

I used my Scangauge II and noticed it happed every time the idle was at its lowest. I used the XCAL II and upped her idle and haven't noticed it anymore.

If you find a better fix please let me know.

I found a better fix. It's made by BMW and it's pricey.

most likely your Idle Air Control valve. (IAC) Most likely needs to be cleaned or replaced. It's located at the back of the throttle body. About the size of a roll of quarters.

I appreciate your input very much. But there is nothing on or near my throttle body that looks to be the size of a roll of quarters.

Does anyone have a picture?

There are two common problems on Expeditions that can cause this symptom. One is a leak in the pcv hose, usually at the rubber elbow at the intake manifold, this is more common on the 5.4L but you didn't say which engine you have. The other is the idle air control valve, which can stick and not control idle speed. With the absence of codes I would suspect one of these is your problem.

I do have the 5.4. Thanks for the pic. Nothing like that on my TB? Just an electric plug that plugs into a plastic box riveted to the TB.
I've checked for vacuum leaks and found nothing.

It's now doing it in Park and at slow speeds...definately getting worse.

The IAC is definitely different than on my 99 F150. That was the first thing I thought and wasn't sure where it was. I have removed and cleaned the IAC on my F150. I took off the Expy throttle body it has an electrical connection on the left and the right. I went ahead and cleaned up the inside of the throttle body, but it wasn't really dirty.

***** can you get a picture of your engine bay for the others to try and show us where they think it might be. I will try to get one of my wife's expy.

I reluctantly took it to the dealer yesterday. They called and said it was a bad coil. Seemed odd, but OK. Then later they called to let me know it wouldn't be ready for pick-up because the coil didn't fix the problem. The tech said the entire fuel system went wacky on him and dropped 5 injectors.

Their fix is to now start replacing injectors.

I hear you loud and clear. I also have been in this position before. And normally I would do as you suggest as I am a mechanic by trade. But I bought this vehicle so that I would not have spend hours in the garage fixing what others can't. That time is for fun stuff like Porsche's and BMW's.

Because they know I'm about to replace this vehicle, they are applying for warranty on this issue and are telling me the bill will be small. They want me to buy another one from them. We will see.

It appears that after replacing 5 injectors, the problem is resolved. Why 5 injectors would fail at the same time at 39,000 miles is beyond me.

It cost me $50.

5 injectors for $50, sounds cheap. How did you get them for this?

Maybe a bad fuel filter? Sugar in the gas tank?

The dealership has pulled some real Fkups on some of my other vehicles in the past and they know I'm about to replace this vehicle. They are schmoozing me. Covered it under warranty.
