Powerstroke swap

After school I want to do something wicked with the Ole Ex... I want to put either a 6.0 or 7.3 in her. I know it sounds rediculous, but its really something I am considering. Finding a wrecked F-250, 350, etc, and swapping the entire drivetrain.

I dont think this has ever been done, do you guys think it is possible? The wiring and such would be just an udder nightmare.

Input please.

thank you

Hey, if you want to do it, go for it It's always fun to do something someone hasn't done before

I'm sure you'll get some confused looks from people at the gas station.

I think it would be easier to just trade for a Diesel Excursion. I'd love one.

I for one have no use for a big truck, I just like to have it to be safe on the road and on long trips. It also it good for transportings parts and motors. I would have no use for a Excursion, lol. They are TOO big. I'll have to get specs from the engine and trans, see if I could still have 4x4, not sure if T-cases are the same or how stuff is angled. It would be a huge project though.

wow, this is odd. i had a customer come to my counter yesterday wanting to swap a 6.4L into his 00 expedition. i told him it wouldnt fit. he was gonna take the truck out of the country to his homeland where diesel is cheap, but gas it too much. i pretty much told him easier, and probably cheaper to just buy an excursion with a 7.3L.

Yes, its kind of odd. But like above, imagine the confused people at the pumps, and idling that thing in traffic. It would be sick

Would you consider something like a Navistar 4.5L V6 diesel? It's only about 220 Hp with a twin turbo setup, but it would fit in the engine bay. I've been looking into this swap for a replacement for my tired old 4.6. The biggest problem with swapping a 6.0 or a 7.3 into an Expy/F150 is weight. With a little ingenuity, I'm sure you could shoehorn it in, but it'd play hell with the IFS. Look at how full your engine compartment is now (not sure what engine you have) I know my 4.6 isn't too tall, but it is a wide block. Any diesel you look at is gonna be wider. Your engine bay isn't long enough to have a cooling fan in front of the diesel, so you'll have to relocate your radiator(s) as well. Which comes back to my sugestion of the 4.5L Navistar. Add a propane injection setup and you're looking at 400 Hp and an easy 500 lb/ft. Just an idea. BTW, so far I'm looking at $7k for the swap.

Won't fit. If you want diesel and the ability to haul the whole soccer team around, then you've gotta get an Excursion. And for the love of God, make sure it's a 7.3.

Yea, but those trucks have grown on me. I have seen way too many melted pistons in the Powerstrokes at work

Those engines barely fit in a Superduty, and mod motors barely fit in Expeditions, what the hell makes you think a 7.3 or especially a 6.0 liter would fit in an Expy?

Don't know the dimensions of the engines man. It was just to see if it had ever been done.

I didn't mean to come off in a condescending tone or anything. Just think about it though, the 5.4 is a pretty tight fit in an Expedition. Add a turbocharger, piping, electronics, fuel lines, intercooler...that's a lot to stuff under the hood of an Expedition. Could it be done? Anything's possible with enough time and money. Would it realistically be worth it? I don't think so.
