Better MPG?

Just purchased a 2004 Expedition with 5.4L. Getting about 14.8 mpg mixed regular, 15.8 mixed Granny style driving. Anybody getting better mpg? If so, how? Also, how can I tell if I have the 2 valve or 3 valve 5.4?

Damn, I wish! I get 11.7.............. But then again, mine spends most its time running short trips less than a mile.

Also, you better have a 3v or your the only one with a 2004 2v 5.4............

Lately, the wife's been getting 14.8 MPG city and 19.0 on the highway. She drives the thing pretty hard (2006 EB).

It's just my opinion, but if you are worried about gas mileage, an Expedition is not the vehicle for you. I would take 14.8 any day of the week with mine.

Lightbulb Mileage

2V runs 14.5-->15.5 granny in city. 16-->17 highway
3V runs about 1mpg better city, couple more on highway.
When cylinder deactivation coming is anyone's guess. I don't know
Ford is so late on this technology.

Not really, I consider your mileage pretty good. In all city, I barely get 12 mpg, 18 mpg all highway, and about 14.5 mpg mixed.

This is on a 04' Eddie Bauer 4x2

I have a 2005 EB, combined mileage about 17.5. Oh, it is a 4x2, also. Usually going down the hwy on CC at 75 I get about 20. Around town I get 13-15. This is really my wife's vehicle, she has a heavier foot than I do and it still sits around 17.5 with her driving. We have 25M (thousand) miles on it.
Driving a big vehicle with a V8 in it you cannot expect much.

WRONG.... 04 Expeditions didn't have 3V engines. The 05 was the first year for that. And your mileage sounds about the same as our 04 NBX Expy.

Your right, i stand corrected. I thought the change was made in 04, not 05.

About 11.8 city driving. This is with a 2003 4.6L, with a CAI and custom tune. I really do step on it, though
