Reverse Sensor Failure 2007 Expy limited EL

Yesterday I backed into a parking space I backed into a hundred times against a brick building.

When I get the steady tone I stop.

Yesterday it went from a fast beep to---nothing. Silence.

I stopped, looked at the message center and all was fine. Sensor was on.

I continued to back up slowly hoping it would come alive againand hit the building.

I was going 1/100th of a MPH so I didn't damage anything but the trailer hitch made contact before the bumper was damaged (good to know).

Anyone else notice this or had this problem?

I pulled forward and re-did the whole thing and it worked fine.

It was raining very lightly at the time.

Bob

Cool

From what I gathered at a Ford service dept., the sensors are nothing more than an aid to your mirrors. I had an intermitant issue with my '05 E/B, yeah one concrete barrier and a bank... wife driving - I'm fixin'. Don't put a lot of faith in them. My '07 Limited has done it once, no damage, but I was told it will happen less because it's not R/F sensor, more like a motion sensor ! Not sure if that cleared it up for you (still hasn't for me either). Just don't rely on those sensors totally or it will cost you...bumper cover approx. 8 Frank's plus labor !!!

Those sensors were designed for women. Thats who should use them. The rest of us do a 180 slide into a parallel spot and grin when everyone claps

I've got the sensors on both my F-150 & Expedition. They use sonar (sound)technology to determine distance. Performance is degraded when it is raining, foggy, your car is wet (condensation) or your exhaust is "steamy". They only work when backing against something that will give a good return signal (like metal).

They are a parking aid and should never be depended on. If you have the stereo turned up, you may not hear it beeping at all.

Most of the newer systems turn down the radio when the sensor activates the beeping.

How "new"? Must be on 2007's. Neither my 05 F-150 or 06 Expedition turn down the radio.

--Edit-- I stand corrected. The 06 Expedition volume does in fact drop a smidge when put in reverse. Not much, but it does drop.

Wow! you're right the volume doesn't change on '07 Expy. LTD. We owned an '05 E/B with the sensors and the volume did decrease when the beep sounded.

Taiwan crap...

I use the back up system all the time in the 2006 expedition. Never had a problem, now i will worry a little now when backing up. Wish the 1997 had it,
