People driving the '06 Expy...

How do you like it? I'm considering one.

How is the 24 valve 5.4?

The one that I'm looking at is an XLT. Comfort ok?

What do you like about yours?

Mine is an 05, but there were no changes for 06. I love ours. The ride and handling is great. The performance with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears is ok, but nothing to brag about. The ability of the third row seat to fold flat is a major advantage over the Tahoe/Yukon in my opinion, plus the on road ride of the IRS is far better than GM's solid axle. The only complaint I had with ours is the OEM Contential tires are crap. It's unreal a 40k vehicle came with tires that cheap, but it was a good reason to upgrade!

I will second that. My superduty has the Contential tires on it, and they are a very crappy looking tire for such a nice truck.

I've got an '06 Eddie Bauer. To me, the Expedition's 5.4L is much more responsive than the 5.4L in my '05 Super Crew. For a large SUV, it really gets up and goes. A nice touch on the newer 5.4L is the flat air filter which which just pulls right out (much better set-up than the old round canister style filter).

There's room to spare in the front and 2nd row seats. The third row isn't quite full sized, but its larger than the 2nd row seats in mid-sized SUV's, so I guess you really can't complain. The ride quality is very good. Being so heavy/large, it does tend to drift when going around curves at high speeds. Gas mileage was poor for the first 2K miles at only 12 MPG. Now that the engine is broken in, we're getting just over 15 MPG average (city/highway)

The interior is well insulated, but it doesn't seem to be as quiet as an F-150. The styling of the interior is a little dated and looks cheap with all the plastic. But, looks are deceiving. The interior is well built and the plastic panels are significantly thicker than other SUV's I've had. The center console between the front seats is HUGE (the wife loves all the storage room).

We were first going to buy a well equiped XLT, but we found the Eddie Bauers with DVD system (XLT did not have it) were only $900 more due to the $1500 DVD discount. The Continental tires are not exactly cheap and their warranty is better than many of the other OEM tires, but they definitely would not be my first choice on a $40K+ vehicle. Eventually, I'll replace them with Yokohama Geolanders.

We have an 05 EB and love it. We've had it in the shop twice. The first time was to get rid of the Conticraps because two of them were out of round. I whined and they gave a set of BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains. The second time was to replace all 4 leaky axle seals . Overall though, we love it!

I have a 2006 expedition sport and the only trouble we have right now is a low tire warning gage saying the tire pressure is low, and it is not. Going in next week to have the sensor replaced. We have 9000 miles on it right now.
Everything on this suv is perfect. I wish I had this 5.4 liter engine in my 1997 truck. You can see the expedition on the far left of the photo. I am going to upgrade the photos soon to show both the expedition and the f250

I've got an '06 Eddie Bauer and I like it a lot. I traded in my '01 Eddie Bauer for it and the ride is the biggest difference. The independant suspension is a huge improvement over the pre '03 models.
My biggest complaints are:
1. $45K SUV with navigation and DVD but no way to integrate a satellite radio. That's just dumb in this day and age.
2. Rough idle and hard start, however there is a TSB to address this but it's not clear if the TSB really fixes the problem.
3. Audiophile radio is not as good as the previous models MACH 460 radio...sound hollow and lacks power.
4. Car consumes oil...probably related to #2 above (even with Mobile 1 Syn).
5. Seems to lack power compaired to my '01. However, I had a Gibson Exhaust and KandN FIPK on that car.
6. I think my ContiTracs are out of round.
7. Thin paint, needs a couple of layers of clear coat.
8. 28 gallon fuel tank.
9. A/C does not cool as well as previous models...see #4 below.

Biggest pros to the car:
1. Nicer interior than previous models, especially the quality of the leather.
2. Power fold seats are nice.
3. Gets better gas mileage (I'm at 14.4 city, my '01 was around 11).
4. Climate controlled seats are nice.
5. 28 gallon fuel tank.
6. My wife can operate the NAV
7. Great ride quality

Overall it's just a nice car.

Thanks for the replies.

I now own (well, pay for) an '06 XLT. Black.

I would normally be thrilled to get something new but I traded in an '04 Lightning for it. I really liked that truck but it didn't turn out to be as useful as I had hoped. It's fast as hell but where I was going didn't give me the opportunity to go fast all that often. My relationship with my girl won't suffer as much with an Expy either. She didn't like the Lightning. Actually she didn't like the way I drove the Lightning.

So the plan is to leave the Expy pretty much stock.

Is a tuner worth it on these things? I'll bet it is!

I actually just put a in JET Performance chip (against everyones advice in this and other forums) and there was a pretty good difference. Unfortunatly, I have to send the chip back to JET for replacement because I kept getting "Engine Temp Data Error". When this happens the engine thinks it's overheating and shuts down the A/C. Not good in September...in Houston. With the 24 valves the engine should respond well to an aftermarket exhaust, intake and a good tune. Obviously, it won't be anything close to your SVT .

That they are. Sick of the road noise and constant wobble sound I took it into the dealer and told them to do something about it. They did a road force balance. Slight improvement, but not much. The service manager informed me that because I had 12,700 miles the ContiCraps were out of warranty but he didn't charge me for the balence. The next weekend Sears offered $60 of a set of Michelin CrossTerrains. HUGE improvement. Those tires are so quiet I'm now aware of the windnoise from the door seals.
