Rear view mirror fell off.

My mirror is hanging now. The glue stuff is still attached to the window, but the metal clip/holder that sticks to it fell off. What is the best way to fix this? Scrape the old glue off and re-glue it with the auto parts store glue? or is there something stronger? I somehow remember this happening to an old car we had as a kid and the mirror never holding right again.

Thanks.

The quality of those little $5 glue kits has improved a lot in the past 10 years. But, I've never got one to survive through two summers without falling off in the heat.

I used some Loctite Super Glue Gel on my '93 Jeep's mirror 3 years ago and it's still holding strong. I just scraped off the old glue, roughed up the little metal insert with some sand paper and cleaned everything up with alcohol.

DM,
Before you scrape the old glue off, take a small piece of tape and mark the outside of the windshield.
Having sold the stuff for 18 years, I didn't see any change to speak of regarding Permatex's rear view mirror adhesive, but I always got a good laugh when an irate customer came back within a short time crying because his mirror came off again. I would always ask how many drops of glue they used. I would say that 99% of failures were due to over-gluing, improper prep or hanging the mirror back up too soon. The directions say clearly: one drop of glue.
Good luck.

Thanks fellas.

I did buy the permatex two part kit. I marked the old spot, took off the glue, used rubbing alcohol and cleaned the window with water and then a dry paper towel. I scuffed up the metal piece. BUT I did over glue The one drop seemed too little I did one big drop, it filled the metal piece nicely and didnt seep out when I pushed it on. I let it dry for about 16 hours and then stuck it on, so far it is holding STRONG.
