Rear Wiper Motor Inop

00 expedition that the rear wiper motor will not work all the time. I can change the motor and it will work a few times and quit. I can grab the arm and move it and it will start to work for a couple times. Any ideas?

Are you using Motorcraft wiper motors or aftermarket?

Are you getting the arm tight enough on the motor shaft? Or are the teeth in the arm worn away?

Only thing that I have been thinking, is that it the arm is going down in park to far. When it doesn't work I can pull up and it starts working. If I move the arm one tooth up then it gets in the way of the window opening. It is on tight and not slipping.

Time to replace the motor again. Try a different brand. I replaced mine with an Advanced Auto brand. No problems yet.

I have this same problem. I haven't started looking for the solution yet since I rarely use this wiper.

I had the same problem last year, and I finally had enough of it and had my dealer put in a new motor. Works flawlessly ever since, and it wasn't that horribly expensive...

I bought a 98 used in 2001. The rear wiper wouldn't work. I brought it back to the dealer and they said it needed a motor and gave me the truck back while they ordered a new one. They never put the interior trim panels back on the tailgate so I had to do it when I got home. After I put the panels back on, the motor started working. I never went back to the dealer. A few weeks later it quit again. I took it to a local shop and told them to change the motor (figured it didn't need to be diagnosed again). They put a new NAPA motor in. It worked for a few more weeks and quit again. A couple months would go by and it would work once. Then another few months would go by and it would work once then quit again. Three years went by without it working at all and one day about two months ago, it started working again and hasn't stopped working since.

So much for that. It crapped out again about two weeks ago.

I have the same problem. I was wondering if it's a bad relay or the timer for the intermittent rear wiper. Does anyone know where these items are located on the Expedition? Thanks

Never mind, I searched these forums and found out it's the motor or the nylon gears inside. However I banged my wiper arm like one poster suggested and the wiper started working again.

Just changed mine again this time with new Ford motor. I also changed the up and down relays and discovered that the door and window must be closed for the rear window wiper to work. Lets see how long this one will work.
