Headlight Removal - 05 Expedition

We just purchased a new 05 Expedition. I'd like to put Sylvania SilverStars in the high beams, low beams, and fogs. Any tips on removing the headlights? The manual says to take out the top 2 bolts, then loosen, but not remove the vertical bolt in the back of the headlight. I've tried that with no success.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The manual is correct, you only need to loosen those. I found that getting these things out was a real bear. There are features on the head lamp assemblies that hang below the plastic bumper cover at the bottom. You'll need to carefully, push the edge of the cover down away from the lower edge of the headlamp assembly as you try to pull it straight out.

Unfortunately, it's been about a year or so since I did the one's in my wife's 04, so I can't be more detailed. But spend some time with a flash light and look from below. You will notice the areas I'm refering to that need a little more clearance than Ford gave you.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Removing head lamp

Once the screws are loosened, take a large flat head screw driver (wrap it with a rag), then put it between the lamp and the lower edge of the grill surround. Pry GENTLY and the lamp will pop out.
