97 Expidition airbags are shot

My mother in law has a 97 Expidition with the self leveling air bag setup on the rear. It is a 4x2. The airbags are shot and she want to get it fixed but the cheapest quote we have been able to find is $800.00. Is there another way to fix it like maybe convert it to coil springs? The SUV has 195K on it and she might try to trade it after it breaks 200K or she may keep driving it depending on how her new job works out. I don't guess a guy could just put slime in the old bags.

I have read on here that the coils will fit in place of the bags. A search might turn something up on the suspension page maybe.

Yes you can convert to springs, but why would you? You'll run into a few issues if you do, like the computers suspension warning won't understand the readings, kicking that light off, so it would have to be disabled, most likely by ford. http://navigatorfourms.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=44 There is a link to all you need. You can buy both rear bags for under $200. There is a conversion to springs on there as well, its about $500 for all four wheels.

You're welcome. That takes you to the 1-2-1 deal, which is awesome savings. Both rear springs, dryer and pump and some other stuff for like $350
