2006 expy navigation?

Hey all...

I just purchased an 06 limited expedition with the factory navigation system....

Can someone explain how this nav. system works? I see I have like 12 map disks... Do I have to insert one of these each time I want to use the system?

What about a cross-country drive...? Leaving the east coast to the west coast?Do you have to change disks enroute? This seems like a major pain if true.

My friend's 2005 Lincoln Navigator just had 1 map loading disk.... He loaded it and he was done..... I guess you can't do this with Ford?

I have a 2005 Limited Expy…

Yep, if you look at the discs they will show what area that disc covers. If you are in that area (shaded blue?), that is the disc you need to use.

As for driving cross-country, or out of the inserted discs range, I have yet to find out how that works. If anyone knows then please let me know.

I also don’t like the set up with the 12 discs, but it still a nice system.

It has its hiccups every once in a while. I found out, the first day I owned it, that those discs are a little out of date. Went for a ‘joy’ ride with the family and punched in DQ and ended up at Jenny Craig (maybe it was trying to tell me something) but the DQ went out of business…

But have fun with the ride … I am enjoying mine….good luck.

That is what I would like to know, and may not find out until this spring for a trip to Kentucky. I will try tonight to enter the address of the Kentucky spot I need to go and see if it tells me anything. You see, I, for some reason, never got the manual for this (if there even is one) and their website isn’t/wasn’t that helpful. I am hoping that you wouldn’t have to ‘leapfrog’ through an interstate trip. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question but I am also looking for that answer…..

Thanks for trying to help.....
I just wish the nav system was like the 05 lincoln navigator.....
They have 1 (one) disk to insert... it reads it; then you are done with it....
Don't have to read it again...
Wonder if the navigator disk will work in the ford nav system? probably not.
That would be too easy.....

There used to be (and may still be) a naviagtion disk player in the back. I don't know right off hand, cause I have yet to find one for sale at a reasonable price. I do know that hte new navi's have the single disk dvd instead of the 12 disc cd setup.

Navigation Disks

I have an Expedition with the Navigation system and I can explain how it works.

You insert the CD for the area of the country you are in. If I drive from Georgia to Virginia (which I do a lot), after I cross the South Carolina line the system asks for the appropriate CD. It is not a big deal since the CD's go pretty far over each other.

Now my disks are dated 2004 and if I go to the NAVTEQ website the new updates have a feature that allow you to travel across the US without swapping CDs. I have not ordered my updates yet so I can only take them at their word.
