Anyone Else Have problems with their rear window wiper
I went to use the rear wiper for the first time the other day and it did not work, it was trying but it did not work.
So i get out with it on and get a closer inspection, the motor was trying to move the wiper but it appeared that the wiper was getting stuck in between the glass and the frame of the door, and that gear might be semi stripped. when I gave it a little help it cycled through one time and then did the same thing the next time it tried to cycle.
Is this a pretty common thing for these trucks?
I really am not that woried about it, seeing I have had the truck for 4 months now and only though about using the rear wiper one time.

Was there something in there that can get stripped out, I can here the motor running but its like some gears are stripped or something, I give it a little push and it will complete one cycle and then start grinding again.
I had that trouble with my 98, and it seems my 99 has the same problem. On my 98, the motor would turn but the wiper wouldn't move, so I just tightned the bolt that holds the wiper blade on, and it worked perfectly after that. I have been too lazy lately to see why it doesn't work on my 99, but as soon as I look at it, I'll update you and tell you what I did to fix it.
Newcomer here, just registered. I too have a 99 Expo. and mine has the same problem. just haven't had the time to find out what's wrong with it.

All that is needed is a "little" common sense along with common hand tools. Takes about 30 minutes, and that is if you take your time.
1. Remove wiper arm.
2. Remove inner panel from hatch.
3. Disconnect electrical connector.
4. Remove 2 or 3 bolts holding motor in.
5. Swap plastic sleeve on shaft if needed.
Installation is reverse.
Befor reattaching wiper arm, turn motor on then off to ensure it is in "park".
6. Install arm.
Congratulate yourself for saving about $100.00 and alot of hassles at the dealer.

I have a 98. Bought it used and the rear wiper didn't work. Brought it back to the dealer and they said they had to order a motor. They left the panel off. Picked it up and the motor worked for a day, so I put the panel back on, then stopped again. Brought it to a friend's shop and he replaced it with a new NAPA motor. Same thing, it worked for a few days and stopped again. That was two years ago. I haven't done anything about it since and on occasion, once or twice a year, it will work for a day, then stop again. I gave up on it.
