Sylvania Silverstars

What part numbers are used for the 2003 and up Expedition headlights and foglights? In the 97-02, they use the 9005/9007 lights.... would these still fit the 03 and up??

You can get the p/ns from the sylvania site. I put them in my '03 in December. I wouldn't go out of my way to do it again, they aren't really all that great in this application. The stock headlights on my wife's Pathfinder are still 10x better than the Expy. It is a major pain to get the headlight assemblies out - you really need to pull and shimmy like crazy to get them free. If it wasn't such a hassle I would have taken the SS's back out and returned them. Very tough to get the assemblies out without scratching the surrounds. I am fanatic about scratches so maybe it took me more effort than it would take others, but it was pretty bad. Around and hour and 45 minutes.

I got the Siverstars in my F-150. The reality is, if you drive in the country they are worth it. If you drive suburbia and in the city. Forget it, keep your money. I drive perdominately in the country and I find them worth my money.

I live in the country and find them to be awesome. I have them in my 2002 Lightning... and yes they were a pain to put in, but worth it. I want to get a set for the '99 Expedition, but I want to be able to swap them over to a 2003/2005+ Expedition as that is what I will be purchasing next..... wanted to make sure the 9005's and 9007's will work in it too.

I don't think they have a replacement for the fog lights. I was going to look for another brand to replace those with.

I don't know what pain you guys are talking about. Takes ten minutes tops. I've put them in our Expy when we had it, taken them out when we sold it and put them in my Lightning. No scratches at all. It helps to have a second pair of hands hold up the latches while you slide the lights out though.

Oh for what its worth I like them, not as nice as the Xenon in the Navi but much better than the standard bulb.

What year was your Expy? In the '03 there are no latches to hold out of the way, it is held in place by friction posts and fits so tightly in the surround there is very little room to get the assembly out.

I thought the basic bulbs in my 03 were substantially better than the lights on my old Expedition. You mean the Silverstars are even better?

I thought about them; but after reading Sylvania's recommendation on changing them out once yearly, I stayed with the basics..

Is there a Xenon Kit, or does the SS come close to Xenon with regard to brightness (And coolness)?

Xenon will set you back around $1900 if memory serves me correctly. The SS's will ding you $45. I would agree with Cub Cadet that in the country with no other cars around they are great, but I feel like they don't do as well with other lights and cars around - they seem to really wash out, leaving the area in front of you kind of dark. You can ride next to a car with traditional yellow headlights and the pattern on the ground from the SS's is almost non existant. And yes I do have them adjusted correctly according to the factory spec.
