Radio Antenna

I need a shorter radio antenna for my 98 EB. My antenna hits my garage door and also hits every support beam in the parking garage under the federal building I work in. Has anyone changed to a shorter version, and if so where did you get yours?

Low clearance

I picked-up a low clearance height antenna for my ’02 Supercrew at the ford dealer. It looks just like the stock one just shorter. It solved my problem.

I modified mine.

The ball that is on the end of the antenna is glued on. Using some heat and a pair of electrical pliers, you can pop the ball off with no problem. I cut the antenna to the length that I wanted with a dremel and reglued the ball. Took about 10 minutes start to finish and the reception is absolutely not affected. Cost is nothing pending you have a decent glue, a dremel, and a pair of electrical pliers (which most folks have in the garage).

I cut about 2" off of mine. You cannot tell it was ever modified.

There is a bit more information about this mod within THIS THREAD.

The antenna is a good saftey tape measure. Its better to hit that top of the ant. than the top of the car in a parking structure.

To be perfectly honest I hadn't thought of it that way, but now that you bring it up I've decided to leave the old antenna as is. Good thinking!
