Unhappy 1997 ford expedition bad pulley

Didn't have any problem until yesterday, after returning from San Diego. A bad burning-smell smoke coming out of the engine. When I opened the hood, I saw the pulley was definitely red-hot. Probably a bad pulley or something. Any suggestion what I should do first. Maybe chaning power steering fluid? I appreciate your comment. Thank you. Blessing.

First off which pulley was it? From what you describe the pulley is attached to something with a bad bearing. The pulley itself going bad is highly unlikely. Whatever the pulley is attached to (ie power steering pump, a/c compressor, alternator etc) has bit the big one and it certainly should not be driven until you get this fixed.
