camber changes
camber changes
This may seem like an odd question, but I have a question about the front suspension that I hope one of you guys can answer.
Assuming the front tires have 0 degrees camber at normal ride height, will I gain a negative camber as the suspension compresses or will it go positive? I'm assuming it will be negative but I don't know for sure.
The reason I ask is because the tires on my '00 Expy are wearing more quickly on the outside edges. The toe-in and caster are fine. The camber is out (positive) but that can't be adjusted without an aftermarket kit that will cost me $250. Since the camber is set at the factory (thanks a lot, Ford) I'm wondering if the ride height is the culprit.
Anyone else have this problem?

Yea, I got my alignment and my kits put in on my Expy for $180 at a local shop.
Since my Expy is lowered 2" in the front the wheels leaned in and had a lot of negative camber. The alignment shop told me that is should be just a fuzz negative I think -.5 camber t be exact.
All I know if my $350 tires do not wear out in 5 months anymore.
Yes, the kit is $50 per side, I think. That's how much mine was. It was really easy to install. After I saw him do it, I could do it really easy. The only thing is, you need it re-aligned after you install them. But it is only replacing a bolt on the upper A=Arm on each side with the kit bolt that has a offset washer that adjusts the camber.

Thanks guys. You know, I've always used the same shop for alignments and other related work and they've always given me good service and competitive prices. When they gave the $250 quote, I didn't even bother calling around that time. That'll teach me!
